It's on steam for $7.50.
Worth it?

Absolutely. It might not be as open-ended and memorable as the first Mafia game, but I loved it. Although there is a large city to explore, there isn't much to do in the city so it's very much a story-driven, linear-ish game. It's very cool, though, and looks beautiful too. And who doesn't love the 40's/50's "old timey" atmosphere!? I definitely recommend it, especially for less than $10.
I'd say no. You could save that money towards something far more substantial. Portal 2 is like $45 on Steam I think.
Mafia 2 is one of the most disappointing sequels I've played in a while. Even more disappointing considering the development time.
The game is a bore. They've designed this massive city with nothing to do in it. The ratio of driving to action is like 70:30 (!) - yes, driving to action, not the other way around. The driving itself is okay at best. We're all kind of over the novelty of driving old school cars now. But the turning is wonky. So if you try to straighten up you'll often find the car will just slide out of control which is very frustrating. Some of it is very boring because they've designed these highways that seem to go on for like 2 minutes long - thats a long time to just be driving in a straight line.
Apart from the driving, the game play is so simplistic that they try to pad out the games length with pointless tasks like choosing your jacket or going back to your house to sleep of a night. There are things in it that are just so underdeveloped and underused, like the ability to lockpick a car when you can just break the glass. You never need the shops provided in the game. There's only like 3 of them anyway. There are also these worthless mini games where you can brawl people. The controls in these are very unresponsive and every fight plays out exactly the same. Its like a turn-based punching sim!
To call the narrative subpar would be an understatement. Its not finished, its far too fragmented, there are way too many characters and most of them are completely unlikable. It says nothing about the the mob we haven't seen millions of times before and a lot of the time it doesn't even make sense. There are a lot of cliches in it and stereotypes. Some of things that the ol' Joe says are just argh, offensive...
You might think you could buy it for the action but there's not that much of it and what there is just very standard cover mechanics. And its ALL the same. You take cover, enemies pop out and you kill them. Its nowhere near as challenging or thrilling as Mafia 1 which was a bloody hard game in parts.
Its even more annoying that we know for a fact they cut out a stack of content and then charged for it as DLC like two weeks after the vanilla release.
Unless you are teaching a cIass called "How not to make a sequel to a great game 1011" I don't think you should buy it.
Yes, its a steal at this price imo.
Game is not very long and a bit linear in some aspects, but I loved the atmosphere, voice acting and gun battles personally.
Solid 8/10 game imo. Far from perfect and a bit dissapointing in some ways, but I had a fun time with it.
I mean really... at 7$ how can anyone honestly say its not worth that money? For the price of a burger and fries you can get a good time out of Mafia2 imo.
I bought it day one and I would say its worth buying at any price below full.
I will probably get yelled at for this, but I had way more fun with Mafia2 then I did GTA. Mafia2 actually has an enjoyable story and top notch gun battles imo.
Not as good as Mafia1 was, but still better then the last GTA game imo.
Its not as fast or violent as GTA and not as much freedom, but its structured better, has a better story, characters, atmosphere and gunplay imo.
The game is slower and more story oriented then most sandbox games like this so I dont expect everyone to like it. But if you prefer story/atmosphere over the realism/freedom that GTA IV brings then give it a shot!
OK thank you so far for the responses.
Next question, $7.50 for the original game or $10.00 for the three DLC pieces as well?
Also was looking for a game where I could just lay in bed and play with my Xbox controller, I would imagine since this is on consoles as well it works ok with the 360 controller?

Pretty sure it works with the xbox360 controller (about 80% sure).
I would not go for the DLC, but for only a few $ more its really up to you, it will add a little more length to the game.
Don't do it whitey! 2K have spies everywhere! In the trees! Think of Valve! Lombardi 4 Life!OK thank you so far for the responses.

Yes, it is definetely worth it! The game is pretty amazing and the graphics are beautiful if you have a decent computer. Just one piece of advice, don't buy this game expecting something like GTA 4. Mafia 2 is a much shorter, linear, and story-based game but it is about 10-15 hours of quality fun.
Also, about the DLCs. I did buy them when were on sale before and I can tell you about them. First of all, Jimmy's Vendetta is terrible. Seriously, dont buy it. Joe's Adventure is not amazing, but I say its worth it for $2.50. Some of the missions are short, timed, or frustrating, but there are several longer and flashier Mafia 2 style missions with cutscenes, etc that easily make it worth the $2.50.

It works good with the 360 controller. I dont think the shooting is the best with a gamepad though.l I did something a little unconventional when I played it. I actually used the KB+M for all of the shooting sections and the gamepad when I was driving. The game is pretty slick and allows you to switch between the 2 as you play and will automatically switch the control icons that pop up on screen to whatever device you last pushed a button/key.
Yes, but the game was rushed and extreamly chopped up pre-release. Don't expect anything amazing. But it is worth it. I would pay over $10 for it though.

I was interested to see what you thought of it. That was the feeling I had. At this price though any game is worth a shot & makes it an easier loss to take.
I am from czech and I say don't buy it, it sucks. Very bad game.Pokemaster1337Today my friend is your lucky today... We're practically Czech brothers!! High-five!! :D
It's a great game, steam says I've been playing it for 70 hours ! I got all the DLC even the new cars and clothes. I love the game.couly70 hours? How? The campaign is at most 15 and the DLC, 5 hours maybe? Did you play through it more than once?
Mafia 2 isn't a bad game for $7.50. Just don't expect a huge open world game or one better than the original. Think of the city as a detailed 3D background and prepare for a terrible ending. I'd imagine 2K games would have better games on sale tomorrow. nutcrackrTbh i didnt think i was a terrible ending. It did kind of make sense; in real life if that happened it was just.....what would happen. It is more realistic, and i liked it.
Mafia 2 was brilliant I also took advantage of the steam offer a while ago, it will leave you wanting more tho, i personally think its one of the best looking games around taking you can play it maxed out. Once you get past all the snow winter levels at the begging its great.
