Two games I have been interested in are coming out tomorrow, Starducks new strategy game caleld Elemental and Mafia2.

Wondering if anyone is getting either of these games or both?

I was jsut going to get Mafia2 and maybe Elemental a year from now when its cheap, but then I saw these 5 new videos for Elemental and it got me extremely excited on it today. Not much to look at, but the gameplay and depth in the game looks wicked.

Nice time for gaming I gotta say.. Starcraft2 just dropped, Mafia2 tomorrow and Elemental tomorrow to!

I dont think Elemental will sell that well, but I think it will be like Sins Of A Solar Empire and have a nice little following, along with tons of mods.

I will leave you with some screenshots/Art of both games 8)

Mafia2

Elemental: War Of Magic

Yep, Mafia 2 was pre-ordered after I played the demo. I'd love to support Stardock (did you just call them Starduck kozzy :P) for their efforts towards PC gaming with an Elemental purchase, but honestly I don't think it's a game I'd play much. Could still be convinced later through reviews and player impressions though...

I've got Elemental pre-ordered and am looking forward to playing it. I think I'll pass on Mafia II, though. (not really my kind of game)

Mafia 2, but not buying tomorrow. Way too many games to finish first, wait till it's on sale for $20 or less.

Just finished the campaign myself. It is what it is to be honest. Don't expect the world that is for sure. Sandbox is where it is at though. Heard on the website that the first patch will go up tonight. There are some stability issues and other things but the devs seem to be doing a good job of getting on top of them.

Yeah I have been checking out the Continuious type mode. Like most strategy games it seems that the meat of the games are in the continous.sandbox modes instead of the campaigns (Dawn of Discovery and Tropico3 both I LOVE in continous mode but didnt like the campaigns much).

This is what I love abotu Stardock is that they work on there games and give so many updates, listen to the community and give great mod tools.

Elemental looks very nice. It looks like a nice mix of empire building of Civ games and HoMM combat and fantasy elements/style. How deep is the combat though?

Elemental looks interesting.. but the combat part seems a little too crazy tactical for me :) I like that it's a strategy game with a lot of RPG stuff in it, but I dunno... I'm not good at thinking! lol.

Mafia 2 played great with the demo, but the kotaku review actually worried me a little bit.. supposedly the game isn't that long that you could finish it in a rental and there's not THAT much stuff to do to keep you pre-occupied aside from the main story. It may still be a good game, but I'm not sure if it will be $50 good.

If I had the gamesystem that is able to run Mafia II I would eventually buy it. :P Saw the video review, still need read the written one, and the lack of side missions and other stuff (like the GTA-series) makes me wanna wait for DLC. :) The other game doesn't attract me that much, going to wait for reviews.

As for Elemental, I may just check it out sometime in the future. It looks pretty fun.

Had it not been for Civilization V I would've bought one of these games without question. Now I'm probably going to hold-off for a while and perhaps wait for a weekend deal.

I'm sorry to say that in my opinion, I think Stardock missed the target with elemental on release, which is a shame, considering their record, although it isn't a dire attempt.

Positives:

The general art sytle is nice - partly cell shaded, and looks great

Multiple playing styles / things to do works quite well - you don't have to babysit your town for example, although you can if you want

Full unit customisation is a great idea - you pay for the armour increases and the like but you can also select your own style of jerkin. You also equip your troops with weapons you buy etc.

Negatives:

No Tutorial on the main intro screen - and lack of a cohesive tutorial in the game campaign.

Control system is atrocious. You have to move the screen on the main map by holding down one of the mouse buttons and dragging. You can change the camera tilt etc by using the middle mouse button, but you can't point the cursor at the side of the screen and expect it to scroll.

multiple unit selection isn't easy, and picking out indvidual heroes from a pack of units can be tricky as the unit icons are so small. I also found that sometimes orders were given to units to move when trying to select the whole army.

The art style / isometic battle view, while good, doesn't really work to full effect and ends up looking clunky and feels a bit unwieldly. You don't have the large chunky sprites of the Heroes of Might and Magic / Disciples 2 / 3 series - and it doesn't have unit animaiton / fluidity of the age of wonders series.

The UI is a bit cluttered. Its not immedidately obvious where the end turn button is for example, and its not clear what other options do from the start.

In summary I think the game isn't bad but the control system was rushed, and really hampers the game at the moment - which is a shame and brings my score to 7/10. Also, I get the feeling that all the seperate pieces work but don't feel completely jelled, so it may have been better to sacrifice some of the explore / RPG elements for a more cohesive central structure.

I'll buy Mafia 2 next monday after my physics test. Can't wait to play mafia 2, I'm really thirsty to play an nostalgic action game!! About elemental magic, I'm not quite interested to play this game, maybe I'm need to read few review about this game. But Civ 5 will come out soon, so Elemental Magic isn't in my wish list....yet

I already have Elemental (early release for pre-orders). I finished the campaign, which is basically the tutorial, in rather short order. That's not so bad, since the game should be bought for the sandbox, but it's nice that it's there. Plus, it serves as a good tutorial of what could be done by modders to make more compelling stories and scenarios. I'll be logging more hours into the sandbox mode now that I have a grasp of the mechanics. The first pre-release patch (yeah, that quickly) has already addressed a lot of issues.

No interest in mafia 2. Already been playing elemental for the past few months. While a decent title as of now, I am pretty sure it will eventually become a much better product

Patch 1.01 is already out. Fixed map scrolling. The game does have its bugs and that is a bummer but at least they are being addressed quickly.

Yeah I found the campaign to be a good tutorial personally, dont see why people are angry about no tutorial.

Patch 1.01 went up yesterday. The '0 Day Patch' is supposed to be up today/tonight. Go Stardock!
