Would anyone suggest out there that would make oblivion run smoother for my computer?
Currently my specs are
AMD 64 4000+ 2.4GHz
1.2 gigs of ram
NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GT 256 mb
I want it to run smooth and on around medium-high settings

in terms of upgrades, the graphics card is numero uno - get a 7800gt (they gotta be cheap now) and you can pretty much max it out besides having to choose between hdr or aa
but the easiest way to improve performance would just be to drop the settings, twiddle with the ini to get grass density down (there will be numerous guides for this online - helps a lot) and disable or reduce shadows and drop hdr for bloom and knock that draw distance down
thing is, though, oblivion is a game of beauty - a world to explore and be amazed by... if you aren't playing it in all its beauty - arguments about how much "gameplay matters" aside - you aren't playing oblivion
an upgrade would be much better than any alternative
The best way to make it run smooth is to upgrade your GFX card. Probobly for you a Radeon x1950 XT because you could max out graphics and you could also have AA and HDR on at the same time. The second thing to upgrade would be the ram to 2 gigs but that willn't make great difference right now.
1-spend about 50-60 bucks and add another gig of ram
2- get a new card this card is $135 after a rebate and it will play oblvion on max and probaly any other game you would like to play thats new or old on max settings http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102061

Another gig of ram wont increase fps thats what he wants. gamespot did test on low end/high end ram with 1 and 2 gb of ram the fps was a 1-2 fps increase with 2gb thats it but having the 2 gb helps with studdering/loading pauses vs 1 gb. so Just lower grass and shadows. Also Oblivion is a poorly coded game.
