Aside from the fact that I wouldn't buy a motherboard that wasn't AM3+ at this point, yeah, everything looks good to me.

You could get an intel i5 2500k build for the same price. I can understand if you would prefer to stick with AMD though... I know that I would. If you do stick with AMD though at least pick up an AM3+ 990FX or 970 motherboard.

well i went ahead and ordered the parts i kept the motherboard formula iV 890FX simply because of budget reasons. With the bios update in the works for am3+ this mobo will be supported. And I think a 6 core cpu will definately last me a pretty good while.

Well OK but you could gave gotten the Crosshair V Fomula or Sabertooth. Both 990FX which is the newer chipset. They cost about the same as the Crosshair IV.

honestly though does it really matter? I mean is am3+ really necessary for a 8-core cpu even games now a days barely touch a quad core cpu.

Yea, if you were on a budget and going with a 955 that would be one thing, but if your getting a gtx 570 and looking at the six core amd I think you will be happier with a 2500k. And your not even getting an AM3+ mobo??

Personally, if you're going with AMD i'd just wait for the Bulldozer chips - it's not far now. Your processor will become obsolete after it's release.

Looks terrible. Why would anyone go with a 1100T, at this point? And I'm pretty sure, to get all the features of an AM3+ CPU, you need a real AM3+ socket.

Oh god... Please people. That's going to be a great rig and will serve you well for quite a while. Enjoy it. Only mistake was not getting a true AM3+ motherboard, but you can swap it out too when you have to, which certainly won't be any time soon.

Listen I am a fan of AMD but come on why the hell would you buy an AMD processor now for gaming its pointless, sure if you wanna save a bit of cash maybe but if you have it like this guy you go Intel i5 no questions asked, its just a way better CPU for gaming. And the people saying go AM3+ with a AMD processor and wait for bulldozer, why exactly? Just get an Intel now and skip bulldozer completely and save even more money. Only time you go AMD now is if your on a tight budget end of.

Like I said why would I need a am3+ mobo fine with am3 for now. I want this cpu to last me at least about 3-4 years before I decide to build a new one. and who knows something new will be out by then. I am pretty sure am3 mobo will not be going obsolete anytime soon hopefully but like i said I am not looking to make upgrades in the near future. Just gonna start from scratch. I am fine with the hex core and especially for gaming purposes with AMD.

I don't know about him but I have been an AMD person for my entire life. If I had to choose between the 1100t and 2500k the choice would be obvious. The fact that the i5 performs better in games isn't enough to make me consider Intel.

To each their own I guess.

At 1080p, based on the information we know now, it will work quite well. The experience should be smooth.

Four years*

Architecture wasn't really the right word, as the main architecture is older. But, the Phenom II family has been around for about four years.

The Phenom II processors are based on the Athlon 64 architecture which was released about 5 years ago (more actually...). Of course it has been tweaked quite a lot since then.

to be honest c-rule I have built most comps with AMD chips I never really had the privilege of using intel chips yet but probably in the near future.

how long do you think will it last and will games really require a lot more cores in the near future lets say within 2 years ?

IF devs start to do a good job of utilizing 6 cores, you will get some decent life out of it. It's not just number of cores, it's also how fast the cores are. For example, a 2500K which is a quad, beats out the Phenom II hex core, in most multithreaded benches.

It will be at least2 or 3 years before the Phenom II X6 starts to have a hard time with new games. For the most part you shouldn't have any problems. Of course there are always stupidly designed engines, like whatever Starcraft 2, uses which only fully utilize 2 cores. In games like that you will be gimped by the lower core-per-core performance of a Phenom II CPU. Luckily not many games will have this problem and less should have this problem in the future.

I wouldn't call myself a fanboy honestly. I often recommend Intel CPU's to other people. I don't force my preferences onto other people and don't let them factor into my recommendations.

Anyway, I consider myself a loyal customer. I've been using AMD CPU's for as long as I can remember. On the other hand things like this and this certainly don't help Intel's standing in my mind...

I think that it's natural to develop preferences. Most people develop them :) What is important is not to become a crusader and push your preferences onto others who just want honest answers.

fact is : clock for clock intel sandy bridge is twice as fast as phenom II, that means A 6ghz phenom is only as fast as a 3ghz sandy bridge. There are no 6ghz phenom's , the ghz is about the same in the cpu's you can buy (with a max of 3,6-3,7 ghz). So even a 6- core phenom at 3,3 ghz will never beat the sandy bridge 4-core @ 3.3 ghz So buying a 6-core phenom is a bad decision, for a cheaper price you have a 4-core sandy bridge

AM3+ and 955BE and wait for bulldozer and buy one when they drop in price = giant win over a expencive 1100T and non AM3.
