I recently upgraded to a 24 monitor that looks great bu DVDs don't come close to filling the screen. I still get huge black bars that take up half the screen, and this is a widescreen monitor! I run it at 1920x1200 resolution. I installed cyberlink power DVD but that only helped a little? What can I do? Would grabbing a high def drive fix the problem by upping the resoultion of the DVDs?

Where are the black bars?

Bars down the bottom and top are normal, because not only are Movies normally at a much wider aspect ratio then normal HDTV's (which are 16:9), but PC widescreens are also a bit taller then HDTV's (16:10), so that adds another small black bar to the bottom and the top to the bars that are already there.

Google VLC, download it and when the movie is playing right-click and go to the aspect ratio tab, select 16:9 or 16:10. It will make full use of the monitor, but it will stretch it some if the movie is not native to that res.
