So, according to IGN the rumor is ME3 will be announced tomorrow at the VGAs and it will have multiplayer. If it's co-op I'm ok with it but I'm guessing that somehow a seperate multiplayer mode would detract from the single player campaign which is what Bioware games are all about anyway.

Until it is actually confirmed I am not going to get my knickers in a twist about it. However if ME 3 does have an MP component I will be very disappointed and it will probably be a game I don't bother with. I have absolutely no problem with Bioware/EA producing an MP related Mass Effect game (I wouldn't buy it but there you go) but I do not agree with shoe horning MP into a game that is purely a single player experience. I bought both Mass Effect 1 and 2 on release because I wanted an enjoyable single player game, if they add MP then I believe single player will be compromised and I will vote with my wallet.

If this is true BioWare is making it's biggest mistake. EA started milking BioWare by making them make Mass Effect 2 for PS3. If they introduce a multiplayer mode one of the greatest RPG franchises will be destroyed.

DON'T DO IT BIOWARE ! ! !

Yeah, a co-op multiplayer might not be a bad idea but personally I'd rather they just focus on making the best single player experience possible. If I want to play multiplayer I'll buy a game that was designed specifically for it eg CSS, TF2, L4D2, BF2142.

Honestly I don't care if they half-ass the multiplayer as long as the single player portion is of the same quality as the 2 preceding Mass Effect games. If not, then I will be disappointed.

Let it be co-op. Its pointless putting in these MP modes that just can't compete with the big guns of the industry (CS, Halo for consoles, TF2, COD, etc). I don't if the combat in ME suits itself at all to MP.

I was under the impression that ME3 and the multiplayer component were going to be separate, I hope that is the case. I don't think shoe-horning a MP component into ME3 is a good idea, because even if it doesn't somehow detract from the SP adventure (which it almost certainly will), all the fans will scream that it does and it will start a firestorm. I can definitely see them setting up a MP game within the Mass Effect universe, their are plenty of options to work with. I cannot see them doing it effectively on current engine or in the context of ME3. My guess is they are going to announce a multiplayer game in the ME universe, ME3 is likely 18 months or more down the line.

They hired people from Raven for a ME related multiplayer project. It's a new BioWare studio.

Mass Effect 3 MP will be a spilt-screen race to beat the game first.

I'm hoping Mass Effect 1 & 2 go on sale during the Steam Holiday Sale. I plan to buy both, if they do. I haven't played them yet, but a friend at work highly recommends them and I love good, SINGLE-PLAYERRPGs. If they add multiplayer, it will undoubtedly shorten the single-player experience considerably (it ALWAYS does). I refuse to buy games with 6 hour campaigns and multiplayer. In fact, I hate multiplayer. Please EA, don't mess up a great (so I've heard) RPG series before I even jump into it.

That is one of the reasons I was assuming a multiplayer game set in the ME universe was going to completely separate from ME3, the other being indications from the viral stuff on facebook a few months ago.

I hope to frak it's co-op. If it's anything BUT co op I'll be a little disappointed. And it's not SUCH a stretch. They already have a party system in place, and what they're doing with The Old Republic wouldn't be dissimilar-- party of four against AI enemies and so on. The only thing that'll have to take some getting used to is the dialogue sections and decision making.
