As long as they go back to the old Mechwarrior, and not dumb it down. Those were the days where evn the original Mechwarrior sort of felt like a flight sim, what with all the controls and keypresses. If they are going all platforms then keep PC version away from console crowd.
HELL ****ING YEAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
woooooooooooot
I mean uh...I'm excited.

100% agreed. I have always wanted a new MechWarrior, as the outdated tech puts me off from the older games.
I pray to god it will not be on console. it if is then the game is ruined. As long as they go back to the old Mechwarrior, and not dumb it down. BEHOLD THE RETURN OF THE MIGHTY TIMBER WOLF!!! (yes thats right, TIMBER WOLF, not madcat you inner sphere freebirths!)
kidding aside (i actually prefer merc outfits), this sounds...TOO MUCH like the Mechwarrior 4 storyline...
This new MechWarrior is set on the planet Deshler in the year 3015, and places players in the role of Adrian Khol, a wayward nobleman who prefers partying and shirking responsibility over his training and studies. However, when House Kurita launches a massive invasion to conquer Deshler, resulting in the death of his entire family, Khol discovers a purpose to fight for.
Come on....bring on the merc campaign and let us choose who to fight for!
RPG'ish mechanics(you can spec on a mech now!), 4-coop campaign and full featured multiplayer(?). And they are also featuring my favorite mech, the Warhammer. Awesome news...awesome news...
Hmm, coming out on PC and Xbox360. I just watched the new trailer, the HUD for the mech is kind of basic (it doesn't show locational damage on a mech, only total damage percentage), I hope that is changed in the actual game to a more detailed HUD system like in the previous games. I'm really happy there's a new MechWarrior game on the way but I hope to god it isn't another MechAssault.danb0I hated mech assault but I can understand the dilemma of location-based damage. Its "realistic" and makes aiming your shot counts but at the same time, i can see how its a problem with multiplayer since every mechwarrior worth his salt will only and only shoot at the legs since its practically the most critical part of a mech and one of the least armored as well, at least not as armored as the body. Aside from giving us a "hardcore" option with location-based dmg enabled and a "nooby" option where said feature is disabled, i dunno how they would go about doing it.

I dont know, that seems like a weak reason for not including it. It is like not including headshots in FPS for fear of everyone in MP will go for it. If they were really worried about it they could make the legs more sturdier, besides I would go for the mounted weapons first :)
Awesome news! :) I think the only one I played was Mechwarrior 4, but the multiplayer was pretty damn fun.
I for one am excited about this new installment of MechWarrior. Yes, the developer is unproven, but that doesn't mean they can't make a good MechWarrior. I think the dev of Fallout 3 was highly doubted by fans of Fallout, but they definately proved that they can make a good Fallout game for sure.
This MechWarrior definately looks more simmy than MechAssault. I am also pretty sure that there is locational damage since the Atlas got his arm blown off and it also looked like his autocannon got disabled. I am going to be optimistic about this game and I hope that it will be a TRUE MechWarrior, not some arcadey piece of crap like MechAssault.
After reading the first interview on IGN I'm feeling more optimistic about it now. It looks like the controls are going to scale from reasonably-arcadey to simulation level. There are a lot of new aspects they're bringing to the table like the information warfare e.g. launching scout drones, jamming satellites, taking down communications etc will all be a major part of the gameplay. Apparently enemies won't just magically appear on your radar anymore so you'll have to use these new systems or add some scout/light mechs to your lance to find out where enemies are and stuff.
They seem to emphasize that all mechs are useful in one way or another and the single player campaign is going to have a different experience for players who choose light, medium, heavy or assault mechs so you can play it through multiple times using a different weight class.
Also new is 4-player co-op which is more than welcome. The other multiplayer mode they have sounds interesting too but since they haven't found a publisher yet some details could change in the future.
The -nice- vid is a dramatization that maybe isn't based on the final stage of the engine used in the game, so HUD limitations are not enought to call it "arcade" isntead "simulator".
Anyway, the battle isn't very real: a 100 Tm, full armored (304/307 points) Atlas that uses MLA 20 at short range instead of firing his massive Gauss Rifle main weapon against a 70 Tm Warhammer that faces simultaneosuly a 70 Tm Thor (Clan, 3/8/5, which means: can jump! ) with 2 equaly massive PPC...
Even if the final title would be average, I'll buy it for sure: too many hours enjoying the tabletop frnachise :)

ugh, only as "simulation control level" as the 360 controller allows... It's going to be something sad, likehaving two different crouch stances for your mech.
The trailer was ****ing amazing. It's too bad that's not in-game lol.Swiftstrike5Are you sure?It looked like it could have been. Either way, it looked awesome, I love how they are throwing in RPG elements, I loved the cockpit, and the dynamic environments. Most anticipated title now FOR SURE.

Have you played Chromehounds? A deep mech game is possible with a 360 controller. As long as they go back to the old Mechwarrior, and not dumb it down. Naw, they were always like that. Mechwarrior 3 and 4 too.
Man I cant wait.
Though I do share your fear of the game being dumbed down.
Hmmm maybe we will even get a Mechcommander 3!?!?
[QUOTE="xXDrPainXx"]Pretty awesome, I haven't enjoyed a MechWarrior game since MechWarrior 2.Drizzt13
Really? 3 was awesome and 4 was a good followup.
MW3 was the best for me. MW4 was too arcadey IMO, and I feel that it led to the creation of the MechAssault games.
For all the concerned, Jordan Weisman who is helming this game is the same guy who created Battletech 25 years ago, which means it will stay true to the source material as much as possible, and Piranha just proved with their Transformers game they can handle giant robots. The challenge is going to come with which publisher they ultimately have fund this effort and whether all of their grand dreams of coop, multi-arching storylines, and big multiplayer modes make it off the design floor. If they can make it huge, explosive, and as pretty as the opening trailer, then it will create just as big a stir as Mechwarrior 2 did over a decade ago.
If everything goes well I couldn't be more excited as this will be a complete relaunch of the franchise.
That's amazing. The destruction on the building looks really cool.thats a cutscene btw ppl most likely the intro. says in the corner [in game footage]

I like Armored Core series more myself. Chromehounds has a lot of interesting mechanics, but the mechs are kinda bleh and bland. It's also VERY slow paced. Some interesting things are the communication towers, which allow you to talk with players on your team. Without these, you're on your own. The classes allow for a large teamwork mechanic. A soldier can call in artillery support, but that artillery is extremely vulnerable to snipers, unless there's proper scouting. I thought it was cool, but far too slow paced for me.[QUOTE="TheCrazed420"][QUOTE="The_PC_Gamer"]

As Swiftstrike mentioned, its slowpaced, but thats what I think of when I think of a Mech game. You really do feel like a big massive heavy robot. The customization options are absolutely massive, so you can tinker with your mech build for hours on end. And the sweetest part was the online. It was a persistent world. You joined one of three factions, and you participate in the war by attacking/defending different territories on the map. It would typically take a week or so for one of the factions to win, then the game would reset. Every battle meant something, it wasnt just mindless. And there was a ton of maps. Not quite sure how active the online is nowadays. I really hope MechWarrior has this style of Multi, as its way more involved and engaging then just simple deathmatches, or even objective-based minigames.Just watched the full trailer, its looking pretty sweet. As long as I get to outfit my mech with whatever weapons I want(duel ppcs ftw) then I will be happy.
Gameplay wise I'm glad they've dumbed it down, all the managing of heat, throttle and whatnot in the old games reduced the fun-factor for me
I would run before we eat you alive. Simulation MW or no MW, those are the only two options for me (and many other by the looks of it.)Just watched the full trailer, its looking pretty sweet. You literally have to bind every single key on the keyboard to an action in order to play the game... It was an awesome game though IMO.Just watched the full trailer, its looking pretty sweet.
