Ok, me and my friends are getting a LAN party together soon and one of the titles they brought up was Mechwarrior as a game choice. Now, being a huge mechwarrior/battletech fan it got me thinking. Where the hell did Mechwarrior go in the gaming world? Yes, we have had those cheap knockoffs that they liked to call "MechAssualt" but where were those games that I held dare to my heart, the games that allowed me to customize a 100 ton monstrosity, and walk out onto a bleak battlefield with nothing but a trigger finger?

I know that they canned Mechwarrior 5 years back but here is my question. Would you like to see a new Mechwarrior game grace your path? If so, then would there be anything new you would like added to it?

MekTek has kept MW4 alive, and is where most of the MW community is now days. you should check them out, they have made tons of packs for MW4, making it a better overall game. the game is still fun to play today. i hope someday we see a MW5.

It's a shame the series isn't revived. Although if it WAS, and although I hate it when people call games consolized, the game would probably be consolized, or dumbed down in general to appeal to a mass market.

The last Mechwarrior game I played was freakin awesome... I wasn't any good at it, but it was great fun and the multiplayer was intense. From what I've heard of Chrome Hounds, it's a similar concept.. but I never played that game.

I use to own Chrome Hounds hoping to get the Mechwarrior vibe but in the end it failed to please my hunger...

I was just going to suggest that game. I think I enjoyed Mechwarrior more, but Chromehounds was a solid mech game with a unique online. I hope they make a sequel.

Yes, yes I would. I think the number one thing I would like to have in a new addition is the ability to look around your cockpit in a freelook mode. Like, there could be a key you have to hold down or something that allows you to physically look around the inside of the 'mech, see your body, your hands on the controls, look out the windows of the 'mech. I don't know, I just think that would be really immersive and fun, and each 'mech would be different inside so it would give a little more detailed view of their differences than just how they are on the outside. It'd really give you the feeling that you're playing a human being piloting this giant walker, as opposed to playing a walker that's understood to be piloted by whatever character represents you.

*sigh* Alas, it likely will never be...

One thing that I hated in MW4 was the targeting and reticle zoom took such a horrible step backwards compared to what was in MW3.

Thy guy that started FASA many years ago bought the license back after the Shadowrun team (FASA) produced a retail stinker and FASA closed.

See, I've been thinking about what could be added to the game to make it more interesting. I'd love to be able walk in a mech bay and visibly see the mechs that I own/customized and select them that way. I'd also love to real time damage. As in if a laser hit you in this spot, then this weapon would not function at 100% efficeny anymore or cease to function. (Yes, you could blow the weapon off in the others but it took several hits)

MS doesnt own the license anymore, the original creator bought the license back after microsoft ditched (and killed) mechwarrior and crimson skies.

See, that is the kind of news I like hearing. Now all he needs to do is find a small PC game company and get to work!
