I have been trying to play the Metro 2033 Demo again this is the demo.

I got a PhenomX6 2.6ghz 8gig ram and a ATI 5750. Now I know my GPU is not top of the line but it is supposed to be a good mid range card that should play games at a decent frame and most high settings?

But In Metro 2033 demo It chugs badly on pretty much every setting? Is this just a demo issue or is this game just crazy hard to run? Ive tried a few more demo and it seems I should be getting way better performance then i am? I'm starting to think it is my PC or GPU that is not working right or something?

I did DL the new catalist driver from 10/22/10. But one thing I did not unistall my current drivers I just downloaded the new one. It should just overwrite the older driver right? Even still I think the older driver was fom like 6/10/10 or something not that old.

Anyway what is the deal is Metro just that hard to run. I mean I should still be able to play it with a 5750 right. I also tried the Mafia 2 demo and that chugged like ass also on every setting?

I don't think those games should be having that much trouble on that card. What res are you playing at?

I would guess you either have a bad card or the games are having trouble with your six core cpu.

He means return the card so that you can get a replacement. However, I think this is an extreme suggestion. You should run some more tests to be absolutely sure that it's the card that causing the problems. Don't RMA it just yet.

Make sure you aren't running it in DirectX 11. You want it running on DirectX 9. Turn off any AA and turn settings down to low. Put your resolution to the highest it can go (whatever your monitor supports.) Then try increasing the settings from low to med, med to high, ect.

Maybe because Black Op's desn't work properly and neither does Metro 2033. I'd uninstall those drivers, run Driver Sweeper, then install the newest drivers and reboot. Then install DirectX and try playing it again.

Just played UT2004 demo ran great but that game is 2004 so that could run on a freaking cpu softwar at this point. Man that game is ugly now.

RMA the cardgmaster456
WHOA! That's jumping the gun just a little bit, don't you think? Usually when a person has problems with the game you assume it's a software issue before moving on to hardware. For example, Fallout New Vegas runs like crap on my machine, but every other game runs perfectly fine so obviously it's an issue with New Vegas, not the PC. OP, here's my suggestions: 1. Make sure that Metro 2033 is being run in DX9 mode, not DX11 which is what it's probably defaulting to. Your card cannot handle DX11 in that game, and DX10 will probably be too slow for you as well. 2. Try some other other games as well and see how well they play. 3. You could also try uninstalling your GPU drivers, running driver sweeper, and then reinstalling them. It's possible that you've got some old pieces of GPU drivers left on your machine that are making things run poorly.

Yeah I do not a gateway but the same specs.

Anyway I'm taking thisd POS back to best buy right now. It must be a bad GPU. I just tried the Dirt 2 demo and it played but ran like ass. Even on all low settings it ran not that smooth. I have a few days to take it back 14 day return at best buy. I'm going to get something else. And just add a nice GPU later down the road.

Then i'm back to playing Black Ops tonight hehehehehe

You most likely have physx running which a CPU/ATI card can not handle. Also make sure to uninstall physx if you have it since there have been reports in loss of FPS while having it actually installed and running ATI cards.

I wouldn't do that. Some games need the libraries installed. If you uninstall it, it may gut the game. I think Mass Effect 2 left PhysX on my PC despite the fact its all AMD.

Metro 2033 requires a monster PC to run in DX11 at any reasonable frame rate/resolution. Chuck the game on DX9, make sure PhysX is disabled, then tweak settings until you get a reasonable frame rate.

It does need quite a bit of power, my 5850 can only do max on dx11 for like a few hours before it overheats and starts artifacting =P

Did anyone bother to tell the OP that a 5750 won't run Metro 2033 worth a crap? I have 2 GTX280 OCX in SLI and I cant get over 30fps with all the settings maxed out. The only way its playable for me is to decrease the quality.

Yea, it is a pretty demanding game. I have to use the following settings at 1920x1080 to get the game to run smoothly, with my HD 5870.

DX 11 Options: Advanced DOF: OFF, Tessellation: ON

Quality: High

DirectX: DX 11

Antialiasing: AAA

Anisotropic Filtering: AX16

I ran it max at 1920x1080, however at dx9, steady 60fps. Dx11 barely looks better... and runs a hell of a lot worse.

Something must be wrong with your computer. And the 5750 should be getting 25-30fps on Medium/highish running with dx9

I had to play the game at 720p in standard DX11 fare with AF x16, "AAA setting" antialiasing (I think it's just 2x MSAA) get consistently nice framerate, and even still some parts chug on the GTX 460 1 GB equipped machine I beat it on. My 5850 in my other machine has to be set up the same way when in DX11. Even at 720p the game still looks good in DX11 because of the "standardly equiped" AA, so I don't mind the lower resolution, but 1080p sure does help take out the jaggies. It's only too bad the game is incredibly z-buffer heavy, probably due to all the transparencies and soft particles, but it makes the dusty underground environments look pretty cool and realistic.

Why didn't you disable the AA and AF and run it in 1080p?

I had a problem with frame rate dips with my HD 5870 at 1920x1080 with this game. However, I've figured out that if you turn off all of the applications that you have running (including those in the background), you can get a significant performance boost. Try it out and see if it works for you.

I simply turned off a few (about 6 or so) programs I had running in the circled portion of the following screen capture. I also close down any web browsers and any other programs (WMS, Itunes, etc) that I have open.

Oh okay, so I should be good then. I only have my anti-virus running which barely takes up any memory. Lowest on my processes list. Web browser is definitely off during gaming but I like to have iTunes running which is second on my list that uses a lot of memory. I like gaming with music but that might have to end soon. :P Perhaps, I'll use an external method like hooking up an ear bud to my iphone and listen to music while gaming that way. The other process that I notice was apple mobile service which is generally used to SYNC your iphone to itunes. I guess I will have to remember to manually turn that off. All I have on my tray is avira anti-virus and steam when I play games like Black Ops.

You cold also disable any unnecessary programs which start when the computer boots up.

1. Go to Start >> Run >> Msconfig

2. Go the the "Startup" tab

3. Disable any program of your choice, except programs by Microsoft.

Sweet. Thanks. I totally forgot about Msconfig. It's been a while. Also, have you tried switching to windows 7 basic while you play games? Sometimes Aero takes too much memory. I'm going to test this out.

My GTS 250 is pretty much identical to the 5750.

At 16x10 I can play in medium settings with 16xAF, it's pretty smooth with hardly any dips.

On my CRT monitor I played it in 1152x864 and I was able to easily do high settings with very few framerate issues.

And dont bother with DX11 or DX10, just stick with DX9. Your card isnt good enough for DX11 and DX10 looks identical to DX9 so there's no point.

[QUOTE="freesafety13"]Did anyone bother to tell the OP that a 5750 won't run Metro 2033 worth a crap? I have 2 GTX280 OCX in SLI and I cant get over 30fps with all the settings maxed out. The only way its playable for me is to decrease the quality.gmaster456
Something must be wrong with your computer. And the 5750 should be getting 25-30fps on Medium/highish running with dx9

Well it was the GPU something was wrong. So I took the tower back to bestbuy and got another model. What I did was I got the same modekl but a bit better - the GPU now. I now got the PhenomX6 2.7ghz 8gig ddr3 1TbHD 720 sata. ATI 5450. So as you can see I have a lower model GPU. But I got a 2.7 over a 2.6 x6 CPU now. I'm cool with this though becuase my plan all along is in a few months to buy a bigger power supply and a way better maybe a 580 Nividia. And then My PC will SMOKE!!!

Either way catch this though this little TI 5450 aint to shabby I can now even play Metro 2033 on high in DX9 with some slow bown but I can still see the game looking nice. So the only reason i had went with the other tower was I was thinking ok the 5750 would get me for about a year. I'm mainly just wanting to be playing Diabo 3 on all high when that come out in 2011 cross fingers. And with my X6 Phenom and 8gig of DDR3 and when I drop a sick new GPU in my rig I should be crushing frame rates. I figured my Phenom X6 and my already large ram amount will last me several years especialy once I do a GPU upgrade.

I think it is a pretty good deal I got and easy I'm lazy and did not want to build. I got this tower Phenon X6 2.7ghz 8gig DDR3 1TB Sata 7200 ATI 5450 for around $850 and then I can now as I said get me a sick new GPU off of Neweag or something for cheap maybe a 580?

Getting a CPU 0.1 ghz faster is no big deal at all but the GPU you have now is not a gaming GPU. There is absolutely no chance in hell it can run metro 2033 in medium let alone high settings so I didnt even have words to describe that.

Why did you jump the gun on your previous PC? And why not just get a replacement card? A new PSU and high end graphics card would set you back around $500 which will take the cost of your PC to around $1300, clearly not a good deal.

If you are actually playing metro in any settings at all then you dont have a 5450.

Dude i'm tottaly playing Metro with ease on Medium and on high It plays but is a bit laggy not to bad only when a lot on screen. It's mainly becuase my X6 core cpu beaing a beast of a CPU i'm sure. Like I said I can get a new card and that is my plan. And no I can get a cheap power supply off neweag and also snag agood GPU off on Amazon or Neweag And I bet i'll only spend about $300

Right here

$59 730W Power Supply. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817152036

$149 here is a nice card for now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814121390

And I can go for a 580 when they come down in cost in about a year.

6 core CPU's make little difference to any game; they can barely use 2 properly and my onboard 4200 GPU ia as good as your 5450. That GPU is a joke. Why would you replace a 5750 with a GPU that is 90% slower?

If true, I don't know why you would downgrade, TC. Besides all this, playing Metro 2033 in DX10, DX11 isn't worth it at all. The differences are HARDLY noticeable, at least not in motion or in-game. And the only way you'd probably catch the "improvements" would be to take still images... but you're not playing this game through a slideshow.. so it's pointless and moot. I recommend that you play in DX9, as you'll see a marginal jump in frame rate, plus, it will be more stable. From personal experience, and experimenting with different combinations of settings, DX9 is your best choice. I play on DX9, 1920x1200, all settings maxed. Metro 2033 even at that resolution is very playable. Just a suggestion though.
