looks like origin is going to start offering sales often just like steam does
i wonder if it'll actually take off, considering it will have the support of BF3, ME3, and any other future ea game, it just might

The difference though is that Steam offers them to the rest of the planet and does not restrict them to the US (a notoriously weak territory for PC gaming). Just another reason why Origin will not beat Steam.

can you even prove that?

I thought Origin was worldwide?origin plans to expand to the rest of the world though, they can't possibly imagine to stay in just the USDecrate
Origin is already available in several countries (mine included) however these sales are US only. It is one of the key problems other DD sites have they just can't see past US borders. This is where Steam succeeds, you never get the Steam Summer sale as "US ONLY" nope they include as many countries as they can. Now if a small operation like Valve can do that I have to wonder what is EA's excuse ?

Valve is anything but "a small operation". It's a multi-billion Dollar corporate. But you are spot on about anything else. I tried the competition, like Amazon and D2D, and most of the games there were all US, Canada & Mexico only. Living in the Middle East, this leaves me with Steam as my only viable optionValve is anything but "a small operation". It's a multi-billion Dollar corporate.NoAssKicker47
Valve hasn't been a small operation in a decade. MadCat46
I should have been clearer in what I meant. I was comparing Valve to EA, unless I have my information wrong I would say EA is a hell of a lot bigger than Valve is. Yet here we are with Valve offering sales to the whole planet yet EA is only offering US special deals.

I don't know, but that's an intriguing question. Let's not forget that Valve holds the major share of the DD market, which is growing rapidly, so even if I do believe it's smaller than EA right now, I also believe it's catching up and not too far behind. I won't be surprised if within two years it will be a known fact that DD is the most successful method of PC game sales, and with Valve owning most of that, it's going to get stronger and stronger. And I don't have a shadow of a doubt that a huge part of STEAM's success is its worldwide availability, so unless other DD services expand their services to the rest of the world, I can't see STEAM's status as King of the DD Market being changed.

I'm sure there's proof somewhere, but Japan and US are console gaming countries. What does Ea origin offer service wise? Bandwith for people with slow connections, Acheviements, in game messenger? I want to know so I wont feel bother when I decide to use it.
umm EA has sales too..they just usually aren't very massive or worth mentioning. lawlessxExactly. People need to stop with the EA bashing. At least they're doing sales. They just aren't as popular and wide as Valve sales (summer and winter sales). At least give EA a chance. They might even bring up some cool sales in the future. They have to start somewhere. Mirror's Edge is an excellent game. People should pick this one up!

Not to the rest of the planet they aren't.

Yes they choose to exclude the rest of the planet and just make these US only sales. As for giving EA a chance ? how long have they been in the DD market ? it has to be a good couple of years now, yet they are still pulling the same rubbish. I just felt the point needed to be made that one of the reasons why Steam is so successful is the fact that Steam cater for the entire planet and not just the US.

I am sure there will be some cool sales in the future and I am pretty sure they will be limited to the US as well going by EA's track record. I quite agree Mirror's Edge is an excellent game and I would pick it up but for the fact this sale is not applicable to anyone outside the US. Thankfully I already own a copy of Mirror's Edge when I bought it on a Steam Sale you know the DD service that realises the PC is a GLOBAL market.
was my face when i saw battlefield 2 and 2142 for 5 bucks each
i swear ill never say an unkind word about ea ever again

Well, let EA deal with it then. If they don't want "free" money because they are excluding the rest of the planet, then let it fall on them. It just sounds like you're extremely upset about it. You should stick with Steam, and rightfully so. I understand why you would be upset about it. I think my point is, people tend to forget that there is more than just EA Origin or Steam. There's Amazon.com, GamersGate, D2D, GreenManGaming, etc. Nowadays, not only has it become a fanboy warfare of DX11 and the Call of Duty's, and now it has succumb to omg... "Valve vs Origin vs every other DD service." It's global and there's plenty to choose from.. so why make it a big deal? Mirror's Edge is an old game and I'm sure you can get it elsewhere for around the same price and/or even a retail copy. I think people make way too big of a deal. More so than the companies themselves. Welcome to 2011...It just sounds like you're extremely upset about it. Elann2008
I sought to clarify something that the TC said with regard to how "EA are starting to do sales just like Steam". I felt it necessary to point out that these regional locked sales are nothing like the sales steam offers. I personally do think it is a "big deal" and in 2011 I think it is shocking that with a model like digital distribution a company the size of EA is unable to market their DD service to a global audience. Especially when you consider Steam has been doing it for years now. As for hating EA I do not believe I have said anything disrespectful or "hateful" about EA aside from pointing out that regional locked sales are a ridiculous practise. I would hardly call that "bashing EA".

Yeah I understand. Regional locked sales is downright stupid. I totally agree with you. I just don't want people to get fixated on this Origin thing. Let it be their time bomb unless they change their business model sooner than later. :)Please Log In to post.
