You're right. With all our DX 10 and 11 we won't seen any major improvement in games on PC till next gen arrives. It looks good, up to standards. Why do people expect any better while we're still in this generation?

[QUOTE="Baranga"]Actually.... its more like they sacrificed texture quality along with other things like prebaked shadows in order to achieve 60 fps on consoles. Also Yes carmack suddenly decided to remove alot from the game in order to fit to x360 disk. So the game is now smaller. But he says not smaller, they just managed to make it fit in the disk. I wonder how they did that...... :D Yeah thats how. Anyway that was not my point. My point is that we shouldnt discuss the amount of textures when we have not seen the game yet. Personally, its just making the disk size bigger rather improving the actual graphics. Still better than things like say fear that have the same stuff all over. Why? Do you think that Carmack suddenly decided to remove the one aspect of the engine he wanted to show off? I believe we can safely talk about what Rage is doing and nothing else is. They sacrificed fidelity on the altar of unlimited variety. Is there anything wrong with that?

You tell someone to "Why Dont we play the game first"and then you go off about Rage like you have played it, come on Dakan
Would it kill Bethesda to use high res textures for once? I get that they want their games to work on the ancient hardware of consoles, but come on, just make a low res version of the textures for consoles and a high res version for PC. I'm tired of looking at 800x800 res textures in their games when others are giving me glorious 4096x4096.

Well they actually promised higher resolution textures for PC.
graphics are rarely improved at this stage of development. Oblivion in fact had a graphics downgrade around this stageWhat a lot of people seem to forget is that this game is many months away from release, and these are some of the earliest screenshots we are getting. That being said, I have no complaints with the graphics thus far. I do however hope that the animations are leaps and bounds better than oblivion. For me, good animation means much deeper immersion. The opposite hold true for clunky, unrealistic animation(oblivion, fallout 3, etc.).
TL;DR - Months away from release, graphics look good, hope animation quality isn't terrible like Oblivion.

Plus somebody will probably make some sort of graphics enhancement mod anywayYou tell someone to "Why Dont we play the game first"and then you go off about Rage like you have played it, come on Dakan :lol:kozzy1234
Allow me to laugh too since we laugh for no reason. ....because there nothing funny or illogical with what I SAID. Which is not what you posted. You cant judge rage's entire texture loadout with a couple of screenshots. It might turn out to see them more often than expected. They even cut the game in half for consoles. But if both games look weak from those screenshots, thats how pretty much the full game is gonna be.
Also my point was the weak texture quality and that more texture variety does not mean better graphics. So how about we wait and see how much variety of textures is there when they cut the game in half to fit on the x360 disk.
But why the hell do i reply to your quotes? Seriously, you avoided yet again to discuss dragon age. I remember being one of the first who actually commented on the low quality textures before the game actually comes out. Yet most people choose to ignore it, even when the game was out, it took about a month for people to actually start noticing. My guess is biased praising of a game they had not played and when they actually played the game and took off their fanboy googles, they saw the game's graphics for what they really were and not for what they hoped.
So lets pick this up in one month after the release of rage and one month after skyrim. Notice how i dont even mention how you choose to ignore that all those people agree with me that it looks weak, yet did not bother to quote like you quote me.
Yeah, that pretty much sums it up.

Yet another one who agrees with me. if it was the previous engine, i could understand, i am afraid gamebryo cant take much. When those HD packs were released, the game suffered heavy increase in stutter. (even the creators warned about that) Now this new engine might do the thing but it looks alot like gamebryo so i wouldnt bet on it.
For the record, fallout 3 had some higher res textures than the console version. But i dont think it made that much of a diffirence. We are looking for drastic improvements and they aint gona give em to us.
Calm down dude!:P What do you expect, they are just too lazy. I don't think they will bother to make it look much better compared to consoles anyway. At least it looks better than Oblivion.
Same with Rage, after the latest screens, that game looks like a totally different game.:(

Same here  Still looking forward to it, but damn, graphics king just got thrown out of the window for an average looking game :( if not dated (techical wise) and everyone acts like nothing happened
I am just gonna say it agan for some people that like to quote me :evi:: TECHNICAL wise.
So there goes rage and there goes skyrim and the actual graphically impressive looking games that remain in 2011 are: brink, crysis 2 and wticher 2. Rage sure as hell aint gonna be graphics king....oh wait, GS gave an award to MGS4 when they were clearly better looking games outhere.

I think Rage looks "good." However I will agree, it looks nothing like I once expected. If it had come out earlier it would be quite impressive. I remember seeing screens all the way back in '07 and I was blown away. Now that is 2011, it doesn't look anywhere near as impressive. I think we all need to quit worrying about the graphics for Skyrim and start pondering on the gameplay and the other important stuff. I personally don't think Crysis 2 is going to be all that draw dropping either.Let's all wait until the game actually comes out before judge, ok? How's that sound? I mean, it's still nine months away. They have plenty of time to make improvements.

I congratulate you for the excellent way you made your post. Seriously, that was great i am not joking. I kinda agree with rage but you'd expect that after all that time, they would increase the graphics, not leave them be for 60 fps. I mean it makes no sense. Most devs try stuff to improve the quality.
As for crysis 2? If it looks as good as the multiplayer trailer. I will be 100% satisfied. Its still better than any upcoming fps right now. Perhaps brink looks a bit better.

Well Brink uses idTech 4 and looks better than Rage (from latest screens). And don't know what to say about Crysis 2. They say it will have DX 11 features and again, I doubt it will look much better than the console version or Crysis. We'll just have to wait and see.I guess it's easier for the devs to blame it on console limitations and not bother to make a proper PC version of the game. And it's funny how they're beginning to charge $60 for a PC game.:(
Okay, now I'm actually getting a little more enthused about Skyrim. These screenshots are way better than those crappy scans that were posted a week or two ago. It's looking pretty good in my opinion. Let's just hope the main quest for Skyrim doesn't pull similar b.s. to what Oblivion did; "So, I have to fight through several more copypasta areas and close Oblivion gates in each of them?"

Yup agree 100% but admitedly both brink and crysis 2 are impressive looking games. Skyrim and rage, meh not really. No, not really, sorry. Very dissapointing.
:(
(watch the full sized images if you dissagree)

I did "watch" them and I still disagree. Not disappointed at all. Very cool environments with a unique flavor.
"unique flavor"? Those pic to me look like an updated version of oblivion. So much for the new engine. Textures and vegetation look extremely similar. I am dissapointed, i expected for better graphics. I would have to actually agree with Dakan. When you look at the enlarged pictures, you can see alot of Oblivion-like grass, tree and foliage. The gameplay elements still excite me though. I just hope all the dungeons are truly different. The problem is not that after 4 years is not as impressive as was in 2007, the problem is that after 4 years it looks worse.:? I don't think it really looks worse man :P. I'm sure they are, and even if they aren't it's not that big of a deal, they don't look to bad to me.hopefully those are console shots & the PC version will look 20x better

Let that be console shots
Let that be console shots
Let that be console shots
Let that be console shots
If it isn't then I'm waiting for some texture packs.
It's not as shockingly beautiful as Oblivion was when it released, but it looks nice and I'll just get a texture pack if I'm not satisfied.shakmaster13Oblivion was shockingly beautiful when it released? :P
It might not looks "next gen" but I'm sorta glad. I'm glad because I remember Oblivion releasing and obliterating my GF 6800GS. Besides, as long as the artwork is good, the animations are improved, the combat is more engaging, and the graphics aren't terrible (which they aren't) then it should be immersive enough.
Maybe this time around I won't have to wait two years before I can max out the graphics settings.
is it not possible that these are console shots??? or maybe pc on medium settings?? we dont know if this is the best it has to offer guys, lets just wait until we get some more info and some confirmed PC shots b4 we start jumping the gun....

this is incredibly disappointing, at least from a technical level. Looks like a modded Oblivion engine.
I'm with you guys. Artistically uninspired as well. With this much time between games, I expected more from Bethesda. People will say we're nitpicking, but this is their bread and butter series...the bar should be set higher.Lol... Sometimes I wonder why I keep coming back to check this website... Anyone that gave a hoot about video games must have left years ago... Its a bunch of spoiled kids and rich scumbags with a XBox, PS3, Wii, iPhone, Mac, and PC all with the latest hardware... And none of you care about gameplay at all... Everyone in this thread is just downplaying this game because of the screenshots. For what? Because they "look like oblivion"? Well I gotta tell ya, you people need to get your eyes checked. Go to Google Images and look at some oblivion screen shots. You all arn't remembering correctly. Here is one I found in 3 or 4 seconds. Or see some others here
Now go look at the OP again.................. LOL
I hope the sound, animations and combat got an update... Maybe even hair, really hate seeing that rock hard long hair look, even some animation w/o physics to make it move would be better than what it was...
Also, really hope PC Rage looks as good as the old screenshots, sure would be a shame to see it dumbed down to make them all look equal.. and fairly unimaginable coming from id.
