Could someone recommend a not too expensive graphics card that can handle Call of duty Modern Warfare 2 ontop settings? Thanks

Also, be sure to get an nVidia card. GTX260 looks like a sweetspot for you.http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130434&cm_re=gtx_260-_-14-130-434-_-Product

Believe me, it is not. In this nVidia owned market, you could own GTS250 and get better performance in 50% games just because of optimization. Anyway, for dynoahmite, if you are scared by the comments that it doesn't work, just find a another version of the card (XFX would be nice). It is better than 4890, but more expensive. If you don't want to spend a measly $10 to ensure you have a nice experience in MW2 and all other games, then get 4890.

Sorry, but could you provide a link showing that a GTS 250 performs better or equal to a 4890 in 50% of the games on the market today?

LOL wow. Dude i can max Modern warefare 2 at 24xAA and 16xAF at 1680x1050 on a 4870 with only 512MB GDDR5. Dude save some money just get a 4870. they are still the bomb.

4890 destroys gts 250. But enough of this. MW2 doesn't require the best graphic cards out there. The hd4850 will run it without any problem. Btw, what's your display size? If it's bigger then you need better GPU

There are certainly games that are optimized for nvidia cards right now, but I have a hard time accepting the notion that buying an ATI card isn't worth it. My 4850 treats me VERY well at my native resolution (1280x1024). A 4870 will handle any game out there.

Chill out dudes, admittance is relieving. And that was a hyperbole if you didn't understand. But anyway, GTX260 is a much better choice than any ATI card from HD4000 series (excluding 4870x2).

Will you report it if it says: Kosova është Shqipëri? I bet not... And by the way, I don't give a hell, report it ;) I'll report you for the abuse, though. Did I discuss about this on forums? No, it is in my signature. Many people have signatures not related in any way to hardware forums, so should they remove them? I like your logic. That line has nothing to do with forums. It is just expressing my opinion where I can, not trolling, for all the world that discusses on HF to see my opinion.

Wow, I didn't know I can expect that performance from MW2 :o That is, of course, if my ATI card feels comfortable with delivering good frames for just once... No no, I was not referring to you my dear omnipotent being! *Opening my case, begging the card to deliver more than 40fps all the time, praying, kneeling, lighting candles, cooling it, giving it money...

Low budget: 4850

Middle budget: Gtx 260

High budget: 5870

If you want to join the club of elites, just buy a Gtx 295.

Thanks for your help. Anyway, I eventually ended up getting the GTS 250, which works completely fine for me. Can play MW2 and Crysis on maximum settings. :) Which is as good as I need

Wowowowow, don't stretch it there, gts 250 is pretty close to the performance of a 9 series or 8800gts 512. Don't tell me you can max out CRYSIS (lol), or max out codmw2 with AA and extra textures without having the frame rate drops become sketchy.

Actually, the GTS 250 is actually a rebrand of the 9800GTX+, which is pretty much a rebrand of the 8800GTS (G92).

i played crysis with the xp very high tweakon my 8800GTS 512, it ran it just fine for a good portion of the game, some places i had to turn it down a bit. like daytona said its not truly maxed but its still quite a performer for such a dated card.

Ya it really depends on the resolution. I have 8800GTS 640MB and I can play crysis with 50% settings on very high and 50% on high at 10x7 with 2xAA and 16xAF. If I had one of the newer and faster cards, I'll definitely be truly maxing crysis.

lol i swear Slig0, ur the only person whounderstands me and feels my pain. i am constantly in search of a solution of an ATI driver or poor optimization problem of each game that i get. every time i get a new game, i cross my fingers, find a 4 leaf clover, wear a cross, and deeply pray for a minimum of 35 fps on a popular game. even though my 4870x2 is a BEASTLY card, it still fails to surpass my oldgtx275 in more popular games which are all nvidia optimised.

MW2 is a game based on old console hardware, you don't need a monster rig to run it maxed.

Actually I can play mw2 on max and crysis on almost max(for some reason some of the "Very High" options are disabled, they are grey.). BUT I guess it doesnt ALL depend on the graphics card, if you got a badcomputer and an awesome graphics card, it still might not work
