Alright, so I have a copy of Escape from Monkey Island that I got when I was a bit younger. Anyways, I just wasn't interested in the game, but recently I've been wanting to play through some of the older adventure series. I was wondering if I should play through the other four games first, because it sounds like there will be some humour that I won't really get if I don't. They all sound like they're great games anyways, so should I try to track some copies down?

I think you can still have fun without knowing MI 1-3. But there are quite alot of insider jokes, so considering the quality of the first three Monkey Island games, I would definitely recommend to play them first.

The second is the best, then the first, then the third, then the fourth. So I'd definitely recommend them. You can download the first for free from Fileplanet. Oh, and I think you need to use SCUMMVM to have sound for the first two games. I'd also recommend Maniac Mansion, Day of the Tentacle, Grim Fandango, Sam & Max: Hit The Road and Full Throttle.

The third game "The Curse of Monkey Island" is one of the great PC games.

You should at least play that one. You could give the others a go too if you don't mind their age.

The third is my favourite in the series. You don't necessarily need to play the rest of the games but it would help.

All of the games are worth playing in the series. Pick up some others like Grim Fandango, The Longest Journey, Dreamfall, Pandora Directive, Under a Killing Moon, Overseer, Full Throttle, Maniac Mansion, Blade Runner, Sam & Max, Myst & more if you find you're into the genre.

I never thought Escape From Monkey Island was up to the quality of the first three, for a couple of reasons. It is definitely worth it to check out the first three MI games.

Also check the game Grim Fandango out. Its an adventure game like MI and is godly.

The first two are the best. I recently played them again; still entertaining.
