If it's PC exclusive I guess that's...somewhat exciting, but monumental? Negative.
Mechwarrior series is one of the classic PC games, especially Mechwarrior 2 series. Legendary even. Considering the almost absolute dearth of simulation games on PC and now a game no less than Mechwarrior is revitalising it, yes, this is a pretty monumental news, especially for older gamers that absolutely crave the simulation gaming goodness that they got in Mechwarrior 2 and 3.mirgamer
i don't think so. let's just forget the fact that the studio that developed the classic series has long been dissolved - even back in its heyday, MW games have always been niche titles and were NEVER truly popular. and now? pfft. MW5 is going to have minimal impact on gaming, and this is by no means a monumental news.

That studio was FASA and now they are called Smith & Tinker, founded by those who originally produced the Battletech universe. They are not dead, you missed the memo :P.Never truly popular? Are you sure? Considering the Battletech RPG series is a well established sci-fi setting that has spawned entire series of novels, card games, a whole cartoon series, with tabletop games with their mini model kits akin to Warhammer.
Now lets look at the PC games that spawned off of the Battletech story :
- BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Inception
- BattleTech: The Crescent Hawk's Revenge
- Mech Warrior 1
- Mech Warrior 2 (spawned 2 expansions = Mercenaries, Ghost Bear Legacy (both entirely stand-alone campaigns)
- Mech Warrior 3 (spawned 1 expac - Pirate's Moon)
- Mech Warrior 4: Vengeance (spawned 2 Expacs = Mercenaries and Black Knight, both entirely stand-alone campaigns and further 2 content packs = Inner Sphere and Clan)
A game that spawned 6 launches and various stand-alone expansions = a very popular game. And thats just the simulator based series.
Lets not forget :
- MechWarrior 3050 (1995), Super Nintendo and Sega Genesis (1994)
- Mech Assault 1 and 2 for X-Box (curse the names)
Oh, and a further 2 RTS style games :
- Mech Commander 1
- Mech Commander 2.
I'm sure I've missed some but thats already 16 whole games just off of Battletech series in the space of 15 years. You may not be a fan of Mechwarrior series but this is indeed big news for PC gaming.
It may not be THE monumental news that PC IGN is clamoring but calling it a niche game is inaccurate and wholly off the mark. Personally, i think this would be it...and if nots, thats alright coz that simply means I get 2 monumental news in 1 day.
Most importantly, that most people seem to overlook, Mechwarrior is reviving the almost dead scene of combat simulators, especially the giant walking robots simulations that was quite the rage in the late 90s/early 2000s.
Those would be : Heavy Gear 1 + 2, Earth Siege 1 + 2, Starsiege, SHOGO : MAD, Slave Zero, Steel Battalion, G-Nome, etc etc.
all right, i stand corrected. thanks for the info. :) it's not like i don't like MW anyway ( in fact just bought the entire MW4 series last month, and i already have MW3 ).
monumental they say?.... dont know the game anyway GazaAliFrom what I have heard it is like a futuristic version of Braveheart! Only his face requires several coats of paint!
doesn't stop them from being great games. both CnC3 and RA3 were superb titles of the genre. i'm definitely looking forward to this. :D
Haha, you should have waited. http://www.joystiq.com/2009/07/09/mechwarrior-4-free-on-battletech-com-soon/all right, i stand corrected. thanks for the info. :) it's not like i don't like MW anyway ( in fact just bought the entire MW4 series last month, and i already have MW3 ).

Hopefully it won't be something boring like Crysis 2.pilouuuu2004Already been announced (E3). I'm not sure that I'll buy into the fact that it's absolutely MONUMENTAL, but I'm glad that at least someone is making an ATTEMPT at doing something (anything) big on the PC.
