Great potential, turned into a totally wasted mess. Combat was flashy, but came down to sitting around for mindless timing attacks to the point where combat seemed more like overused quick time events. Wouldn't have been so bad if story missions didn't constantly force you into combat. What's the point of doing acrobatics across rooftops, sneaking through the shadows and stalking your prey in secret if they screw you over with a mandatory cutscene as soon as you get close? Not to mention the same old missions over and over. And the ending was a complete letdown, sure it's one thing to have a cliffhanger, but this had no resolution whatsoever.

Horrible ****** game. I expected this to be the new Kotor. I expected to play it at least ten times and not be bored. I bought a new PC so I can play it. Screw you game!

Call of Duty 2 and 4

- Simply weren't as enjoyable as the first game. I don't know what was missing, but either way both of those games put me off Infinity Ward. Modern Warfare 2 would make the list, except that it was exactly as ungood as I expected it to be.

Dawn of War II

- They kept most of their promises, but the end product left something to be desired. Chaos Rising made it much more enjoyable for me, and Retribution's looking to be their next Dark Crusade.

Oblivion

- I didn't play the game with high expectations, having read a lot of opinions about what it was like. That I was STILL disappointed should tell you how bad it really is.

Fallout 3:

- Does not deserve a 9+ status. Period.

Age of Empires 3:

- I put an enormous amount of time into the second game as well as Age of Mythology. I must have lasted about 10 hours into this one before quitting it out of boredom.

Empire: Total War:

- Never should a game be released in that state ever again.

Half Life 2 and Episode 1:

- They're impressive experiences. Best FPSs of all time they are not. Episode 2, however, fixed a lot of their problems.

Mass Effect 1 & 2, Dragon Age: Origins and Awakenings

- Playing these games a second time made me realize just how good they aren't as RPGs.

Command and Conquer 3:

- I don't know what it is about the game that made me dislike it. Either way, it didn't manage to live up to my mediocre expectations.

Health packs? Anyway, I have no idea why you think Call of Duty 2 isn't as enjoyable as the first game. It literally improved on everything. I agree with 4 not being as good as 1 and 2 because of the small maps and shorter levels, though.

Half-life 2 episode 1 was a bit of a let down, but episode 2 was excellent.

Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising was an absolute scandal.

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City. Not that it was poor, but I had played San Andreas first, and so VC seemed a bit of a let down.

Yep, Oblivion is definitely up there. Fallout 3 also wasn't very good. There's just something about Bethesda's games that turns me off. I think it's because they're generally very large and feel mostly copy pasted. I generally have something like an hour a day to play video games, tops, and with Bethesda's games you have to put in SO MUCH time to get anywhere and make any sort of meaningful progress, I just end up saying screw it and play something a bit more rewarding.

Also, Oblivion gates. The worst.

Ah Dawgz! Certainly Dragon Age - which was said to be an awesome original shock to a whole genere, but was an old clichee of a clichee of a goddamn clichee, remake of Baldurs Gate, with dumb story rewritten lord of the rings, dumbed down gameplay mechanics, and idiotic 3d graphics when stepping on the mouse covered your whole team with potatoe soup all of a sudden...

Other is STARCRAFT 2 - a graphic patch to an old game from 1998... it's a god damn joke!

Mafia 2. Disappointing because I was really hyped for it for over a year but it just turned out to be a linear 10 hour game with a pretty backdrop.

Vietcong 2, coz the original blew me away. I expected the already proven developer team to give everyone a good lesson. Why the hell would they give up the best weapons physics engine ever, not bested to this day! Not only does the sequel suck, but even the poster is crappy.telep_man

True, or the size of the game is just insanely short for that era's standards. Wish game nowadays had shootig mechancis like that.

Not the worst, not even average...but very disappointing. Capcom turned Resident Evil into all action without FEAR or any sense of dread in the air. I miss the old Resident Evil games. I hope RE6 will turn back to its roots, RE: Code Veronica styl-e.Elann2008

I just dont know whats worse re4, with its total lack of scary moments and "trials" levels filled with laser traps and zombies with guns and explosives. or re5 that feels like an action game with terrible control. Atleast the things you have to face are not insanely stupid like re4, but there goes the survival element. Again, neither is bad, just dissapointing. The new RE is from new developers. Judging by what i have seen latelly from RE, can't say they can mess it up. Who knows, perhaps its better. More dead space like.

For me it would be Assassins Creed was incredible but could have been much more and extremely repetitive thus never managed to finish although came close but just could not take it.

Sup Com 2 only played the demo before release but made it feel completely inferior to the first. Since then as someone has said they changed a lot of stuff so it might be better now than release but damage was done as its had such a price crash in a matter of months.

Mass Effect 1. Just couldnt get into it at all and I stuck at it for 2 hours so I gave it a chance. I honestly cant believe all the Fanboy praise it gets. Its funny how most of the games that everybody praises I just find to be boring. lol :P Oh while I'm at it AVP2 that sucked to high heaven.:P

I really hate to say this, but:

HL2E1HL2E2

Weak writing, badly designed puzzles, annoying firefights, no new weapons or abilities... I felt these games were lacking a huge amount of quality in comparison to Half-Life 2, which, as a die-hard fan of the series, was tremendously disappointing.

I really hated how they deviated from the original formula from Retirement Home Simulator 1&2! They removed half of the rice pudding puzzles and put in some crappy tapioca mini games instead. What is this, My First Simulator? Devs keep dumbing down our games for accessibility.

Agreed on Resident Evil comment. When I heard the developer of RE5 wasn't making a return to do RE6, I was very happy. :P

I was expecting it to be linear just like Mafia. It is a bit shorter, though. I think a lot of people went into this game expecting Grand Theft Auto. Which was never really the point of Mafia. It's more about story and atmosphere. But that's not to say that the game wasn't disappointing in comparison to what was promised to be in the game. Still, I wasn't totally disappointed, considering that it provided me with many, many hours of good fun.

Aliens Vs Predator... The new one by Radical was such a awful game.. Oblivion by Beth, one of the most over-rated games of all time.. Star Wars Empire At War, I was hoping for a Homeworld esque game.. What I got is a extremely shallow game where land combat was a complete chore.. Empire Total War.. Muskets has never been so boring compared to Rome or Medieval 2 Total War.. Neverwinter Nights 2.. Greatest system hog ever in my book, easy game.. Cheating AI, bugs bugs and more bugs.. And extremely linear.. Even more so than Neverwinter Nights 1...

Far Cry 2.

After the hype, and PC Gamer gushing over it, it was one of the most disappointing things I have bought.

Operation Flashpoint 2.

Thank the gaming gods Bohemia developed the ArmA games.

i'm mostly pleasantly surprised by games instead of disappointed. if i have to choose one it would be the secret of monkey island: special edition. not that it was bad, but i just really shouldn't have played that again after all those years. it was still funny here and there but that was really all it was.

SF_KiLLaMaN

I am not the guy who said "the hype was too much" thats the other guy. What i am saying is that i tracked it on it's 5 years of development and when they initially showed areas like this^ they started removing stuff such as vehicles and the dead city in 2003. I did not expect that in the full game the Pripyat would be hundlend in such linear way. I mean, in comparison with the previous levels of the game, the sanbox element was not as strong. Thank god COP made up for that and stalker 2 is gonna mainly take place in such areas.

I agree, only ressurection of evil and quake 4 were from other devs. Thats why they were not as good. On september rage will come out and close the gap between sanbox and linear fps.

I've been disappointed a lot in the last 2 or 3 years. Here are the examples:

  • Operation Flashpoint: DR
  • Medal of Honor: Airborne
  • Rainbow 6 Vegas
  • Dirt
  • Far Cry 2
  • FEAR 2 Project Origin
  • some other games

I was probably most disappointed with Far Cry 2. It was so promising but apart from great graphics and good physics nothing was realized. The other game would probably be F.E.A.R. 2 which wasn't a bad game but it should have been so much more since the first F.E.A.R. was really epic.
