I completely agree. Just because someone dislikes the game doesn't make it over-rated. Heck, Homeworld 1, Catacylsm, and Homeworld 2 didn't have a huge marketing blitz and didn't sell like other RTS's around at the time so not sure how it could be over-rated. As for my pick, I can't really choose anything as reviewers opinions are just that, opinions. If my opinion differs from theirs doesn't mean a thing and if the public in general enjoys the game then I think it deserves the praise it receives. Now, if a game receives all 10/10s and the public clearly hates the game then it may be considered over-rated.Homeworld and suck, two words that should NEVER be in the same sentance.
Wasdie
BFBC 2 ...
And Crysis was a great game .Gr0wl
this
GTA San Andreas: mess story, bad interiors, broken AI, insane difficult, a lot of gimmicks and hit and miss game play, wonky RPG elements. Its a game of quantity over quality really. biggest_loser
and most definitely this
-Team Fortress 2 people tend to make this game to look like some sort of multiplayer goddess from the heavens. The "teamwork" thing is another thing that makes me mad.....all multiplayer games where teams vs. eachother have teamwork -_-
-Homeworld 1 and 2 both suck Relic needs to get Company of Heroes more popular and or change what they're doing to the dawn of war series and stop killing it with hyped releases like DoW2.
-BF2 ugly, nade spam, **** never registers
-New WoW-Too easy
-CS 1.6
-Guild Wars sad excuse for an mmo you can beat it and then thats it....you beat it. The PvP was fun though but thats all there was
-Quake and UT I guess cause I was bad at them but holy crap....i did not know what the hell was going on it was so fast D:
-Warcraft(dota) so boring.....
-SCII

so what do you like??
Has anyone mentioned Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 yet? If not, then I'm mentioning them: Mass Effect and Mass Effect 2 were massively overrated.jimmyjammer69
so is any game people dont prefer its all subjective, its all preference, someone could say OMG GOTHIC IS THE PWNZOZRZ, (but it snot its average) tahts my opinion and (most people would agree with me) thats what it is all preference.

Guild Wars is a sad excuse for an MMORPG because it's not an MMORPG. The developers never labeled it that. Also, StarCraft II is so highly rated because it's supposedly balanced and competitive.
We are all entitled to our opinions, but to call Homeworld games overrated shows you as being too young to appreciate just how much that series pushed 3D RTS gaming forward. To say Quake and UT are overrated when they carried PC gaming on their backs for years is also funny. And Guild Wars provided a fresh mini- MMO experience for free. GW2 looks to expand greatly and keep its free to play model. Underrated in what that could mean for the MMO market. Again, just your opinion, but when you see the impact many games you name had on PC gaming...I find your post amusing.TheCrazed420Yeah, Homeworld is great, so are UT and Quake. "I didn't like them" or "I wasn't good at them" isn't a really good reason to label them overrated.
A lot of u dudes have no idea about gaming...no idea what so ever...
Overrated means : Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation!
How in the hell games like Half Life 2 and GTA san Andreas and GTA IV are overrated...?
To me Half Life series and GTA series are underrated...this games can blow away every AND I MEAN EVERY game that was made on planet Earth till today...
But u can easily say about games like Halo 1234567890+ and Gears of Wars,Fable 2 that are overrated games
Lets see here:
Starcraft II (the framework it runs on is crap and has no LAN)
Icewind Dale (How can anyone like this game? It took everything good about Torment + Baldur's Gate II and gutted them for a poor Diablo clone)
Team Fortress 2 (Game is good but has slowly been destroyed and was 10x better on release as it was balanced. Not worth all the praise it gets now)
Call of Duty (I don't play shooters to unlock things and be killed by people who have better unlocks then me)
Bad Company 2 (See above)
Half-Life 2 (Game is OK but doesn't do anything amazingly and overuses the same puzzle 6 times at least)
Empire: Total War (Buggy piece of crap even after half a year of delays)
League of Legends (It is good as a casual game but can't even be compared as a competitive game to DotA of HoN like Riot keeps on trying to do)
Borderlands (Reptitive grind with the most terrible ending I have ever saw in a game)
Stonekeep (I understand this game is old but it is crap considering how much it was hyped and delayed while ultimately failing to deliver)
All I can think of right now.

I remember back in the beta or before the beta they had been marketting it as an MMO game. Here's an example

I never said they were bad games, they are just overrated IMO.

Oh the irony is so strong here.
Left 4 Dead 1+2.
Just the same stuff over and over. Run around, shoot mindless zombies, run, shoot, run, shoot. Oh wait, you can use an ax too! run, shoot, run, shoot. Just a mindless run and gun. The first one did tickle my fancy when i first played it though. Just gets really old, having an entire game be the same exact thing with different maps
Mirror's Edge: Some really great ideas and design, but I thought the game had too many frustrations and too little content to justify scores higher than the 7s it received. Also, the combat was just plain terrible.
BioShock: I enjoyed this game a lot, but it's not the miracle some people made it out to be. The gameplay get's repetitive, the moral choices are no-brainers and the story was good by video game standards, but not as revolutionary as people make it out to be.
GTA: San Andreas: As another poster mentioned, it's got broken AI, bad combat, some horrible design choices, and the horrible draw distance and graphics make this game a technical disaster. I still loved it, but it being a fun game doesn't mean it's good.
GTA: Vice City: Did absolutely nothing to improve upon GTA III apart from better storytelling and a more interesting protagonist. Felt like a glorified expansion pack more than anything else.
Let it be clear that I like, if not love all of these games. I just don't think they deserve some of the praise they do.
To me, it has to be CoD: MW2 and Crysis. They are both great, just not as great as they are rated. I would also add Resident Evil 5. There again, great game, but I think it's way too overated (especially if I compare it to RE 4). Maybe it's just me who didn't get into these games...
Edit: I know it's not on PC, but Rock Band is probably the most overated game. Especially the Beatles one...
I'll go with Morrowind, Starcraft, and Dragon Age: Origins on these boards. I liked all three, but Morrowind was seriously buggy, Dragon Age was just one gigantic cliche that didn't cut it for a game so heavily focused on a story, and I just suck at Starcraft and think Warcraft 3 is better in almost every way except balance.
EDIT: I forgot to add Bioshock to this mix. To this day, I didn't enjoy Bioshock at all.
Team Fortress 2 (Game is good but has slowly been destroyed and was 10x better on release as it was balanced. Not worth all the praise it gets now)
Borderlands (Reptitive grind with the most terrible ending I have ever saw in a game)
Whiteblade999
Kinda agree with these two. Bordelands was pretty fun, but that ending just ruined the whole thing. Good thing there were the DLCs!

Dont trow random comments if u have nothing to say at all...or if ur not trying to make a joke at least...
Here...some of the most common "definitions" for the word "overrated":
"Anything that is given too much credit and hype" = Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation
"Being Not nearly as good as they seem to think" = Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation
"Not nearly as cool as people think it is" = Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation
"When it reaches the point that something/someone is praised of too much. Either it is rated or appraised too highly" = Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation
"A term used to describe something that gets more hype and credit than it's actually worth" = Games that got a lot of attention and media coverage but didnt live up to expectation"
P.S. A simple "iam sorry that ived trowed a random comment in here" will be enough.Thank You

its spelt "throw" not trow.
and overrated means something that is rated too highly, not something that has a lot of attention or media coverage.
its also very subjective. likewise "live up to expectation" is subjective. so whilst you may think half life 2, gta sa and gta iv are not overrated, others may do. likewise the games you claim are definitely overrated i.e. halo, gears of war and fable, others may think this is not the case.
in other words your opinion ≠ fact
BioShock - a dumbed-down, consolized (e.g. Gene Banks) clone of System Shock 2; it completely lacks the depth, challenge or sense of dread that made SS2 such an all-time great game. Simply put: one of the most disappointing games I've ever played.

Dude iam really beginning to think i gave u too much credit to begin with...it thought u may actually "think"...iam starting to doubt that since u contradict urself...
Me taking you seriously and replying to you ur post in the future is heavily hanging on ur next comment...so please show me that u can actually think and that u have a healthy logic...
the most under rated would be - NOLF, Deus Ex, Crysis (community hates this for some reason), STALKER.chandu83
Those are some great games man! Throw in some Half-Life (1 +2) and SS2 and I'd have my favorite games/shooters of all time.
I'd still have to go with BioShock as being the first game that comes to mind when hearing the word overrated. In particular, the media fawning over this game was amazing at the time it was released. Not that I'd personally consider it a bad game, it's actually good/respectable compared amongst all games -- just overrated...as if many, many people had never played System Shock 2 beforehand (likely).
Gears of War also comes to mind. Again, it could be a fun particularly in COOP. However, for a game with so much attention including receiving a 9.6 on the 360 from GS, I was really expecting something with a bit more substance once it hit the PC.
I think people that post what they think are overrated games should also post examples of games they think aren't overrated.
i believe the elder scrolls II is greatly under rated.. no one really appreciates the limits bethseda went two with what they had.. its a massive game and there STILL isnt a game with a world map as big.
the WoW itself doesnt match its size or scale so as far as im concerned theres truly not enough can be said for the grandfather of free roam rpg's and sandbox games.. daggerfall was sandboxing it before garry ever picked up sdk, and before gta was committing petty theft.
