I don't wanna start an argument but that's totally wrong =D lol....but everyone has an opinion. For me it is Morrowind. I have nevers played a game that was so boring. Dull graphics, dull characters, dull music, dull dull dull dull.
Stalker comes in second. That game was dull too. Not as bad as Morrowind but certainly not fun.

I would have to say Crysis.
And to the guy saying Morrowind, I couldn't disagree more. The amount of freedom you have makes the game awesome. That is just my opinion of course and admitedly, it is a slower paced game.
Two worlds had way way to much hype for such a poorly programmed PoS (Fun if you see past the flaws, which are EVERYWHERE), and Crysis for still being considered such an awesome game, which is about as fun as japanese a$$ pudding....KnivesMW
this thread is about "overrated" not "overhyped." though most overhyped games tend to get overrated (Crysis, Mass Effect and etc.), but I don't think Two Worlds is the case (there was any hype of this game? and has it even been considered a "decent" game?)
anyway, back to the topic (this exact same subject is bound to appear every once in a while~~)
this time I'd just go for one game, THE most overrated one:
Oblivion.
although Diablo is the current king of CRPG at Gamespot, not all gaming review sites go so nuts about the game. Oblivion is different, it's almost universally rated higher or as high as BGs, and always higher than Torment, Fallouts and all previous games in TES series...that's unbelievably overrated.

Yup. Oblivion is the king of overrated games. And while a good portion of PC gamers know that the game was overrated, the 360 forums are the opposite. If they had their way, Oblivion would be an 11/10. Makes me think that Oblivion is amazing if you have never played any other RPGs and had no standards whatsoever.
First of all there is no way TF2 is overrated. IMO its the best multiplayer game out right now and I'm lovin it!
Most overrated game though has got to be Oblivion. I liked the game at first but man did it get repeditive and boring!! I personally think Oblivion blows...
I also think Bioshock was waaay overrated but it was more enjoyable a game by a long shot then Oblivion was...
Diablo 2 is an atrocious click-fest that I can't stand. After playing it for 2 weeks i realized how mind-numbing the game was although admittedly that was a time when I didn't play online so maybe thats what makes people love that game...if not then for the life of me I can't figure what does...

More likely played Morrowind 5 years past it's prime and set expectations towards today's standards. I prefered Morrowind over Oblivion because of the unique areas and I felt the quests were more interesting... but I also started playing Morrowind the day it was released so there was no Oblivion to compare it to. I also know if I were to fire Morrowind back up that the dated graphics would grate on me quickly in today's standards.
Crysis.
It was an okay game, but the piss-poor multiplayer was just an unnecessary part of the game and the second half of the campaign was just awful. I also find it disappointing that this got FPS GOTY when something like STALKER clearly deserved it. Crysis was decent, but far from my favorite FPS and definitely not even close to being anywhere in my favorites.
[QUOTE="GodLovesDead"]I could name a lot, but the most recent has to be TF2. Overrated as hell.fighter91
WOW, well i thought it's the most underrated game ever! oh well everybody has different opinions.
Underrated? It got #1 on PC Gamers recent "Favorite Game" list and it's probably the most praised game on this forum.
Clearly BioShock - it's something like the third highest rated PC game of all time at gamerankings.com. It absolutely does not deserve that kind of position.fatshodan
That cant be true. It just cant be the 3rd highest ranked pc game of all time.
I don't know what people see in Starcraft, but I didn't think it was as great as they say. It's good and it's storyline is solid, even today, but I still think its overrated based on what some people say about it.
Crysis was a disappointment. I expected a sandbox type game and it threw me into a linear based game. I don't care about "How many ways" I can kill one group of koreans. It's 100% linear. You can't explore for weapons or vehicles. Crytek expected it to play out the same way, every time, and the only difference is if you take the beach or the forest to your objectives. I don't know, but I expected to be able to find a well guarded korean gunship, take it, and blast the crap out of anything in my path. Instead, I was limited to cloak, run past enemies, decloak. Or shoot enemies, they call in reinforcements, fight more koreans, and no reward at the end. Why take the hard road when you can just cloak. Hell, I had more fun doing stuff that wasn't on the objective. I would ambush a truck passing down the road and it was almost 100x more fun planning and executing then the entire game combined.

Yea, I wish Crysis was more like Far Cry in terms of linearity (or slight lack of).

That game failed though
I think he was getting "Most overly hyped but in the end failed" and "Most overrated" mixed up......I don't know what people see in Starcraft, but I didn't think it was as great as they say. It's good and it's storyline is solid, even today, but I still think its overrated based on what some people say about it.Swiftstrike5
Three diverse armies with perfect balance. I'm not a StarCraft fan myself, but it's easy to see why people love the game if you actually play against other players.
Crysis was a disappointment. I expected a sandbox type game and it threw me into a linear based game.Swiftstrike5
Why did you expect that? Far Cry was pseudo-sandbox, and it was fair to expect the same or similar of Crysis. Besides, it's a story driven game and you're a soldier with a mission - think about that scenario in a real world context. You're on a ticking clock, so you do your mission.
I don't care about "How many ways" I can kill one group of koreans. It's 100% linear.Swiftstrike5
How do you define non-linearity?
Crysis is a game where you can, yes, kill your enemies in a variety of ways using a large number of tools and taking advantage of the very large environments. What can be changed, really? Your goals are location specific and the environments are pretty damn large. They could make them larger, but you'd still be doing the same thing in the same way, because your goals are location specific.
You can't explore for weapons or vehicles.Swiftstrike5
Again, why would you? Think about the game from in a real world context - it's a race against time to rescue hostages, why the hell would you go wandering through the jungle looking for weapons when you can collect them from your dead enemies?
Crytek expected it to play out the same way every time and the only difference is if you take the beach or the forest to your objectives.Swiftstrike5
And how would you do it differently? Even if the game was a true sandbox environment like GTA, it would still play out the same way every time. That's how games work - unless you're talking about some roleplaying games. But you aren't a diplomat, you're a soldier - you kill or stealth your way through the environment. Again, what would you change?
I don't know, but I expected to be able to find a well guarding korean gunship, take it, and blast the crap out of anything in my path. Instead I was limited to cloak, run past enemies, decloak. Or shoot enemies, they call in reinforcements, fight more koreansSwiftstrike5
What's the difference between taking a gunship to kill enemies (you can take gunboats, by the way) or killing enemies with your guns? Again, think about it from a real world context - that kind of deviation from your mission isn't rational. It makes no sense, and besides, for the majority of the game that example wouldn't be applicable because not much of the game is set besides the ocean.
and no reward at the end.Swiftstrike5
I think you're thinking of the wrong genre, man.
Why take the hard road when you can just cloak.Swiftstrike5
So essentially what you're saying is, why give the player the choice of playing the game in different ways? That's the opposite of what you've been saying for most of your post. Besides, unless you're using cheats or mods, energy for the nanosuit is pretty limited, so stealthing through the whole game is pretty tough - and very slow paced. I wouldn't necessarily call cloaking the easy road when shooting a bunch of guys in the head takes half as long. But either way, the player has a choice of styIes.
Hell, I had more fun doing stuff that wasn't on the objective. I would ambush a truck passing down the road and it was almost 100x more fun planning and executing then the entire game combined.Swiftstrike5
That's what the game is all about - having fun with the tools, the environment and the AI. Crysis offers plenty of opportunities like your truck ambush.
Seems to me like you were expecting something that wasn't delivered (for no rational reason that I can see), and you're disappointed that the game didn't live up to your crazy and nonsensical expectations. That doesn't make the game overrated, it simply means your expectations are unrealistically high.

Well, I did and I still see it as that other guy. Solid single player, good game and all but far from being the best RTS ever. So in that sense, I think its overated too
Besides, starcraft community was a bit hmm, childish.... The extremely competite OMG NOOBS I TEH ROX I PWN Y NOOB! is too much
Micro clicking and rush fest is also very boring for me. RTS is not a clicking ability, and macro should be always more important imo
