Last time I played it, America's Army seemed to be the most "realistic game" I've played.

After that, though, I'd have to say either Falcon 4.0, IL-2 Forgotten Battles, and Combat Mission: Barbarossa to Berlin.

Operation Flashpoint: no run n' gun tactics here, you gotta play it safe, crawl, and stick with your squadmates.  A burst from an AK and your dead, simple as that.  And you better pray your RPG hits the back of the tank or else youre gonna have a very angry 125mm cannon pointing at you.

Deus Ex (realistic difficulty): A bit of a stretch, I know, but the damage is well modeled.  Shot in the leg, start crawling.  Shot in the chest or head, load your last save.  Shot in the arm, you might as well give up because you wont aim very well.

Rainbow Six series (excluding the recent two games, lockdown and Vegas):  Realistic weapons, believable bad guy behavior, tactical planning, and realistic damage modeling.

Falcon 4.0: I think if you master this game, you really could fly the actual plane.  I know that sounds crazy, but do you guys remember the manual for the first edition that came it?  The game came in an actual binder with like a thousand pages!  Not to mention it was tested and endorsed by a few F-16 pilots.

Silent Hunter 3: I dont know much about WWII sub warfare, but from what the game portrayed it definately seemed realistic.  Compartementalized damage, flooding, physics, sonar and radar, manual torpedo aiming, weather...the list goes on.

Games will never be 100% realistic since we play to escape real life.. There is fine line between realism and fun and it's somewhere in between that a lot of companies try to aim at.

For instance, in real life jumping off a ledge would hurt or you could sprain an ankle. It wouldn't be fun hobbling around in an FPS just because you happened to sprain your ankle. Driving vehciles is usually done with the keyboard/mouse. In FPS games it's an arcade type of movement. Putting complete realism would just be a pain and take away from the fun. Who wants to have to check the oil, pretrol etc before they can drive that tank out and blow everything up?

It sure would slow down the Battlefield series if everyone had to refil the pertrol in the aircraft before they take off.. there is already anough problems with people shooting down team mates cause they want to use it.

It comes down to fun vs realism and personal preference. Most people prefer somewhere in the middle. I like to jump into a game and enjoy myself, simulations are great too. But all the little technical (boring) parts should be left out. After all, who would want to play a game that is boring?

Hitman ...realistic?    Ugh....  Anyways, WWII Online is easily the most realistic game out there... It's also probably the best WII game ever made as well, not to mention it being MMO :) .      As far as the more *mainstream* games, Operation Flashpoint, Armed Assault and America's Army would be my favs.

Falcon 4 is very hardcore. I remember having to learn Nav/Tac instruments to navigate to an emergency runway when most of my electrics were knocked out. Silent Hunter 3/4, where the hardcore players plot trigonomety solutions to aim torpedos.

If you're talking about gameplay, the most realistic game I've ever played is definitely SWAT 4 & it's expansion - Stetchkov Syndicate. NO saves throughout a mission, one bullet from you, other three team members & the suspects can end the game, NO medkit - player's physics will suffer with the injury (it also shows where the injury is done, like a bullet in leg will slow down player's movement), all the weapons & tools are used by real SWAT & many other realistic things, all in one it's a really REAL game.

SWAT 4. Closest you'll ever get to being a genuine swat member and probably the only fps I've ever played where the objective is NOT to kill the badguys. Infact the game penalizes you for killing anyone just like a police officer would be in real life. It's an entierly unique experience to have to yell at a suspect to lower his weapons before being able to open fire yourself, and then there's that brief standoff where you're targeting them and wonder if this guys going to drop it or not. It only takes one bullet to kill you in the game, so if he's not dropping it you've got to take him down fast, but get too trigger happy and even if you surive the mission you'll lose all the same.

Imo, the most realistic game I've ever played has to be Red Orchestra: Ostfront 41-45.

Unless you stick with your squad, you're dead. There is no run-n-gun, there is no going solo, there's no crosshair, your gun is never centered on screen, weapons reload about x2 times slower than they do in other FPS's, it takes 2 or more to operate a tank. When you're under fire, it really feels like it. I can go on and on about this game and it's amazing attention to detail and realism. It's also great because it keeps out the CS fanboys. :P

Umm, Arma 2? Anyone? Its a lot more realistic than CSS.

Silent Hunter 4 too, anyone ever play this? You actually calculate all of the data to find a firing solution, then input said data into a machine which is used to apply the settings to the torpedo. So hard, but so rewarding! Amazing series, I own every single one of the Silent Hunter games, they're all fantastic.

Flight Simulator X as well, another of my favorite games/game series. With realism on 100% it literally is like flying a plane... there's a reason why real world pilots train with this game...

Dangerous Waters, this game is insanely realistic. Graphics are terrible but the gameplay is classic.

I wonder if anyone's ever played any of the old Jane's Combat Simulation's? They were also very realistic, amazing attention to detail. I still play Fleet Command to this day, my favorite RTS of all time...

1. What? 2.i thought you cant pick enemies weapons in this game 3. right too many shots and enemies that ofetn behave unreallisticly (hitman 1 and 2, what happened to innacuracy?) so a) player innacuracy simulator :either arma or crysis b) ballistics either crysis or stalker (but fake damage and explosive ballistics) c) real weapons models and damage, sounds and ai :rainbow six vegas 1 and 2 d)tactics: operation flashpoint and the older rainbow six games (id include swat 4 but the ai is fake and tactics are too specific, and no ghost recon for the bad enviroments that dont often give you a way around. e) weapon damage and effects such as grenade ignite range and bullet piercing and wall penatration... ghost recon advanced warfighter 2 and sof games for body gore damage..only f) well have you ever said : "damn how many thousand times do i have to shoot someone to kill him?" i recomend cod games in that case

yeah and enemies that spot you from everywhere and shoot amazingly fast, plus the screen lags sometimes when combat starts... but the most annoying thing is the weapon recoil no weapon has that recoil.....

Just a heads up, this thread is over two years old. So if you're complaining that Game X is not mentioned, chances are the game wasn't even announced when this thread was created.

On top of that, in Cs:s if you throw a frag grenade, and you have body armor and crouch on TOP OF IT, you can still survive.

Operation Flashpoint and Red Orchestra are both highly realistic shooters
