So the rumors turn out to be true.

Old, old news.fudgebloodIt wasn't confirmed. I don't know why Activision thinks that their game is worth $10 more than every other PC game on the market.

Inflation. k0r3aN_pR1d3This magic inflation only affects Activision? If you have a HQ in Santa Monica, then yes.
Blizzard HQ is in California, but their games are $50?
SEGA HQ is in California, but their games are $50?
THQ HQ is in California, but their games are $50?
Most of the publishers I looked up were located in California. I don't mean any offense to your argument (because it is true. CoL is increasing in california), but you can't really convince me that they're doing this because they have to. It seems more like they want to milk $10 more off the millions that purchase their game. It's just arrogance and greed, imo.
They already anounced it would be the same length, if not shorter. For that price, it better be longer than 6 hours this time!
claytoma
Lovely, and I will guarantee you Activision's reaction is going to be "BAAAAAAAWWWW BAAAAAAAWWW WE GOT OUR GAME PIRATED HARD BAWWWWWW" unrealplaya55
so very true

8-10 hours? That would be almost triple length of all previous CoD games... I find it hard to believe it will be anywhere near 8 hours. Unless of course, they make you watch extra long cutscenes with "drama"

Lol, what about online? It's higher because about two million morons are going to pay for it, and they know that. They could price it at $70 or $80 and it would sell just as well.krazyorangeI don't think their mummy and daddy would let them spend that much of their pocket money! :P

You had better start saving your allowance then. Except it's going to be rated M, and the first one was -you shouldn't even be playing it anyways. Way to go, champ.
Well, it can backfire and the game wouldn't sell as well and everybody will stick with Call of Duty 4.

I thought you couldn't play the multiplayer with a pirated copy.
Cracked servers will let you on. I have a feeling that there will be alot of cracked servers on this one. I hope this price backfires and sets an example. But wait, if I do get it from a different place I won't be able to get those awsum nvgs on the limited edition that are totally not a rip off and won't break after 10 min.no problem. it's a bit steep, sure, but i'm willing to fork out that extra few dollars for MW2, which i hotly anticipate.
MW2 would have to turn out to be a phenomenal game (it would need to be great in addition to offering radically different gameplay than COD4 for example, COD4 great won't cut it --- it's possible) for me to really care. I'm fully expecting that if I buy the game, it's going to be after release and certainly won't be for full price. That would be the case even if it were $49.99.
As mentioned by others, hopefully this doesn't become a trend though, if true. It's entirely possible in the US as well based on some preorder prices, but aren't most of those articles such as Pachter's interview with Eurogamer talking about the UK market?
I mean if this is what the industry needs to do recoup their development costs, then fine --- at this point I'd prefer this to a future of all browser-based free games. However, the price increase would still be unfortunate from a consumer PC gamer perspective especially as PC games actually seem cheaper overall lately.
At any rate, for those that are quite interested in MW2, you could probably score a Black Friday deal, or head over to Walmart Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 w/ Bonus $10 eGift Card and pre-order it for $49.82 -- and hope that this one isn't a price mistake and doesn't get canceled/adjusted at some point.
What if Blizzard does this to my Starcraft 2 and Diablo 3?!
there will be blood
It won't backfire because CoD name sells games, people will pick the game up even if it's a stinker. The number of people who pre-ordered it probebly are enough to cover costs anyway then you add the prestige edition profits..nutcrackr
Ironically this game doesn't have the CoD name in it :P

haha they didn't before. But they re-added it when they realised they lost something like 30% of their market by not having the CoD branding. We all know it *takes a look at FF franchise*
I think the name won't affect it THAT much thou, since it still has a lot of the the "Modern Warfare" part (lol).
Nevertheless, if it's more than Treyarch's CoDs in a few years we'll see quite the opposite happening.

or Half Life EP3, or Diablo 3, and most definitely Starcraft 2. ;)
Lovely, and I will guarantee you Activision's reaction is going to be "BAAAAAAAWWWW BAAAAAAAWWW WE GOT OUR GAME PIRATED HARD BAWWWWWW" unrealplaya55yep , or they'll complain about the bad sales. i think they're just trying to make an excuse to take a huge dump on the PC market like the ever growing number of developers are starting to do now that microsoft has so much $$$ invested in dominating the video game business.
This.Due to the length of the COD games, all new COD games should be sold for $20. They are basically expansion packs.
