I was playing a game then all of a sudden it locked up then the system crashed and restarted. Before windows could boot BIOS was displaying cascading numbers and letters then and an atari style series of colors until the Operating System loaded. After screwing around with it a bit I determined it's just the GPU. I had to replace it with an oldGeforece 3 because my 6800 no longer accepts drivers. So I can't install it to acceleration anyway.

I'm not sure if it's shoddy design or manufacturing flaw. This was a BFG make. I had an older ASUS make that did something similar, but straight out of the box. Didn't even have the ASUS make for a week.

I hope BFG wil do something about it because a new GOODGPU isn't in my budget at the moment. Not too happy right now. What's the best bang for the buck at the moment?

If you do a little research you would notice that a lot of people are having their 6800 series GPU's fail on them. Its good you went with BFG and you get lifetime warranty. I am pretty sure they will send you a 8600GT as a replacement.

Since BFG has been offering lifetime warranty with their graphics card products from day one, you shouldn't have any problem getting a proper replacement. I wouldn't expect an 8800 Ultra out of the deal, but even at this stage, an 8600GT(S) would be a fair bit faster and enable you to do some DX10 eye candy.

Yeah I could see them doing that for him.

I'm not atall impressed with their warranty service. They just keep telling me that everything else in my computer is broken. They don't want to replace anything, they are not willing to replace anything. So what is their warranty worth? NOTHING. It's all talk, it sounds good and makes them lookgood. Just some BS. They aren't gonna replace anything, they're gonna fight and argue so they won't have to replace it. BFG is just another Compaq.

Is it an AGP GeForce 6800 Ultra? I don't see how they could send you an 8600 GT if your motherboard only accepts AGP. I'd be in the same boat if my EVGA GeForce 6800 GT crapped out on me. They're exactly the same GPU.

It's natures way of telling you it's time to upgrade your video card.

The 6800 series is under powered for today's games. You now have an excuse to get a new video card.

You know you need a new video card when it runs your games really slow, not when faulty hardware fails on you.

Mine too. They didn't hassle me in the slightest, actually. Just stick to a) it worked before b) it stopped working c) replacing it with another video card fixes the problem d) it doesn't work in a second computer you've tried (i had) and they were just like 'ah, send it right over.' they replaced it with a 6800GT the first time - the RMA'd one was mildly defective, and they replaced -that- with a 7800GS. if you're on AGP, your replacement options are limited.

I had a AGP 6800 that died in a similar fashion as well. I believe it was made by Leadtek. I currently have several BFG cards running in multiple machines and haven't had the slightest glitch since installing them. These are all 7 series, a couple of which have been installed for a year and a half. I'd rather believe it's something to do with the 6 series cards than BFG.

And even if it may be a headache to get in touch with them about your options under their warranty, it's still worth a shot in order to save you some money. I think the clearest explanation is always to point out that the card worked fine for a while and then quit for no reason, with no changes made to the system.

If you get stonewalled or someone rude, ask for / demand a Tier 2 person or a manager.
