If you want a beast you NEED a 2500k!

naoooo you needs the 2600k!
HT is pointless for gaming at the moment. HT is useful for running background tasks. This topic is locked from further discussion.

Its the motherboard i wanna buy but i've head people saying *micro* motherboards are bad.[QUOTE="Daytona_178"][QUOTE="Vaultboy-101"]Definitely going with that setup regardless of what the PC guy says. Also what are your thoughts on the ASUS Maximus IV extreme motherboard?silversix_
Micro ATX refers to the form factor's size. It's neither bad or good, it depends on the user's wants e.g. size vs feature set.
My Sliverstone SG07 uses a Mini-TIX motherboard size form factor i.e. size(for portability) has a higher priority over feature set.
Their smaller so feature have to be stripped out + the board is more cramped meaning less area for heat dispersal and possible problem with large CPU heatsinks. mucgoo
It depends on the Micro-ATX product. I don't have any problems with OEM heatsink with my Mini-ITX board.
Had an ASUS Maximus Gene III µATX LGA1156 board, which was fantastic (no problems fitting-on my Arctic Cooler Freezer eXtreme either) except for when I went crossfire because the PCIe slots left only about 6mm of space between my 6970ies and CFX hid the only other available PCI slot. Reverted to an AsRock Extreme 4 ATX as a result...
I'm thinking about buying a 2500k after all at the moment, just read some interesting stuff about them in a PC magazine. I could get one for 200 AU dollars, I have a feeling it won't but will it work on my G1 Sniper motherboard? I read about the Sniper 2 being able to use Sandy bridge but I don't know if that also applies to the original sniper.
^Sniper g1 is socket 1366 and the 2500k is 1155. so that's a no, 2500k won't work in that motherboard.
From the sounds of it, just the gpu is having problems. While cpu isnt 'beast' it will handle everything very well for a while to come still. You also mentioned you get a little over a $100 every week. However, from what youre saying you want to get a new gpu + cpu + motherboard (since 2500k wont work with yours i believe). I'm assuming that'll all come to what? $700+? (im saying that since AUS prices are higher).
Why not just get a good gpu, and save your money for later down the road and get a brand new system later? Or hell I dont know, use your money for something else? Not saying its a bad thing to spend it on PC gaming if thats what youlove, just saying thats money you really really dont need to spend, specially considering youre giving up almost 2 months of working just for such a small upgrade that won't even be noticeable.
Alright alright I get it :P, the MARS II is very overpriced and I doubt i'll get it anyway. Maybe the 590 isn't worth it either. But I am interested in the choice of a 580 or 2. That was my plan a while ago anyway. I'll take a look at AMD's new card anyway, sounds like a good GPU. As for my 5970, I guess it's just bad luck for me that i've had so many problems. I can't remember if I mentioned before or not but my 5970 was a second hand card before I purchased it, maybe it was burnt out before I even got my hands on it.

Btw, don't bother with the 580 or 590, the 7970 wipes the floor with it.
Your CPU is fine. Don't waste money replacing that and the mobo. Just buy a good single gpu card like the 580 or 7970.I'm thinking about buying a 2500k after all at the moment, just read some interesting stuff about them in a PC magazine. Yeah, I'll just focus on a GPU for now. I don't really want to blow all my money on an almost entirely new system this early anyway, still gotta save up for my first car this year. :P
