my new computer ATI or nvidia

hi, yes im getting a new computer in a month and I would like to know what you think of wich card to get.

the specs are extremly high, dual core processer, 2GB of ram ETC, but I really dont know about the card, I've been really hooked on the nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB, wich is the card wich should be coming with the custom made computer. but now I've been seeing the ATI 2900 XT its the same price and has been noted to have better perfomace, and come with 3 games.

just wondering wich card I should pick I've been really hooked on the nvidia cards, but I've been reccomended by a few friends to get this one, because it can match the 8800 GTX in a number of applications.

just wanting someone to guide me in the right direction, please no ATI or nvidia haters, just someone please guide me in the right direction.

Nvidia - no doubt - that new ATI didn't even came close to the 8800GTX

I dunno, I quite like the HD 2900XT myself. It's a pretty good card in terms of price.

You really have to ask yourself what type of games you enjoy playing and which card will perform best when playing those games. For example, if you want to play Neverwinter Nights 2 nVidia is the better choice or if you want to play Company of Heroes ATi is better.

I suggest you read up on some benchmarks, before you make your decision.

ah thanks guys I'm really though just trying to find the card wich will give the best graphical perfomace and the best frame rates, I dont really know about the kind of games but the ATI card comes with half life 2, half life EP1 and EP2(EP2 is a voucher I think you download it online), still though I mostly like shotters, RPG's, and stragety games for the PC.

so really I mite just stick with the nvidia 8800 GTS 640MB because that will still play latest games MAX.

I got an hd 2900xt over the 8800gts 640MB after a long drawn out debate against myself and am pretty happy. The 4 free games are nice, but I would get the better gpu of the 2. I got the hd2900xt because benchmarks on more recent drivers have shown it to be substantially better than the 8800gts overall, especially in shader heavy games. Check out tom's hardware VGA charts, they are brand new and include the 8800gts and hd 2900xt. At times the performance of the hd 2900xt was closing in on the 8800gtx, which is $150 more.

However, many games are signing deals with NVIDIA for "the way it's meant to be played." I think this is generally justa product endorsement, but who knows... Also the hd2900xt has a pretty big performance hit with AA above 4x. Some say it will be fixed, some don't. Nobody reallyknows.

i'm pretty damn sure you can't overclock the amount of ram a card has... :roll: usually clock speeds are overclocked.

you can't overclock the memory - you can overclock the speed - and you don't need to overclock it - it's already won the match between the ATI and Nvidia, but if you want to kill the ATI 2900XT then overclock it :D

what he wrote is totally stupid - you can see the match between those 2 video cards on GS - you'll see the 8800 won the match - the new ATI video card didn't pass the 2nd best Nvidia video card - how lame is that for ATI

umm man are you sure where the test I'd like to see it, evertime I get attached to a card and here a good reason, i see another reason to go for the other card, I'll check for the test then make my decision.

oh and sorry about putting it in the PC game section I have also moved this to the harware section, but no Im not putting a lock on this topic.

for cry out loud (reminds me Far Cry lol) the 8800 is 20$ cheaper and you get better performances!!!!

I'm checking the video card's site, inno 3D, and it only says how much it need to run one card, but yer the one im getting is allready overclocked, so defantly going with this one ^_^

anyway that person must of not read it proply it clearly says it lags when the resolutions get high while the 320MB GTS stays smooth

LOL - sorry, but you can't overclock the amount of memory a card has. You can only overclock the speed.

I would get 700 wats and have at least 7 fans on ur pc. LOL 2 of those cards could rule the world lol. BTW 1 8800 gtx is better than the playstation 3 in ever way.

My 8800 GTS 320 MB can handle every game in max... I dunno if the memory makes that diference... Well, at least if you play in "sqare" display, but if you go in the Widescreen Full HD, go with the GTX...

I would recommend a geforce 8800 GTX 768mb. It is one of the most up to standard cards with a longer lifespan (probably about 5 years) in terms of future game system requirements. Ofcourse it is abitmoreexpensive than the card you are looking at. Oh yeah and if it gets outdated in 5 years you can always buy a second one and stick it next to it.

yes I would love to buy one but theres huge difference between $600 and $900 even so I think it mite even me $1000 for the XXX verson, I could probolly afford it if I cut down on the system like downgrade to a E6420 rather then having a E6600 processer, keep the power supply at 550,re-use my old screen wich insent looking too good, possibly re-use my old DVD burner, but then that kinda defeats the purpose of getting a new computer.

I'll see how I go if I can do it without sacrificing too much I mite go with a GTX.

alright I cut back (not so much) and am able to afford an GTX I cut down and get rid of the screen and thats really it if I want the GTX XXX for $1000 I'd have to downgrade the processer to a E6420, wich I dont have to do, so yea not im getting an GTX XD, this just keep getting better and better.

But TC, although I was thinking of getting an nVidia card, I heard the ATI cards come fully "unlocked" (I heard it on GS I think) for blu-ray and HD DVD playback. So all you need is a HDCP monitor, Power DVD and your are watching HD. So as someone said before, ATI cards are good for multi-media, not to mention it also comes with Call of Juarez and Half-Life 2 I believe.

For sole gaming reasons I believe nVidia is better. Well thats what I hear.

I would go with the nvidia geforce 8800 gts 640 mb.

By the way, I have been hearing a lot of rumors about new nvidia cards coming out at the end of this year... this might mean a substantial price drop for the 8800 cards. If you can wait until November or December to find out what the situation is, your patience might be rewarded.

yer I probolly sould but my family wants me to get it for my birthday :S, anyway im sure if they realease a new card it wont be much better then an ultra, btw for anyone who didnt read above im getting an GTX now.

also if they do make a rice drop and bring out a new card im sure it would just probolly just be an overclocked ultra, nvidia is really fine where they are at now, there is no real need to bring out a new card until a years time.

well possibly, but the GTX I think is HD as well, but hopefully for christmas I get a new moniter, I wouldent mind an 19 inch PC monitor with an HDMI port to play my PS3 games in HD as well.cameron06

of course he is - ATI called to her new video card HD to make that video card looked cool coz it can run HD movies - WOW - the 8800 can do it way better, the only reason ATI did that coz they didn't want to loose money by sending to stores video card which is less powerful than the Nvidias' - so they decided to call it HD to make that video card for entertainment and not only for gaming - anyway you wouldn't see the difference unless you've connected HD screen to your computer - just get the Nvidia - it's the better one obviously

Well first of all u cant attach a fan if their is no space for it. It is all about the case. Now you could cut a hole out but I would not recomend it. BTW Newegg is super secure I have been dealing there for years. You must ask the builder about the case. You also need to know how many fanus ur power supply will support. 7 fans will be good. fans on ur cpu video card etc count.

It depends, since ATI and AMD have combined getting them together would be better, however AMD works well with either.

Depends on your mood and style of games.
