Very nice.

Looking for more gaming power are you? Stepping up to a new GPU once Blackwell drops?

@neatfeatguy:

Ive notice alot more games are hit and miss when it comes to multithreading or just poorly coded. It's nice to see my RTX 3080ti actually being pegged at 100% all the time now. But yea I do plan on grabbing a new gpu sometime next year.

@04dcarraher: (At the time of posting this) I finally got my DDR5/9800X3D going to MicroCenter today and lucky for me, they only had just one left! Lucky me. But yeah, I also got the same Motherboard except it is a B560.

By the time you see this, I'll be on DDR5 right now! Also, congrats on your new upgrades. All that's left is to see if the next RTX 5080 is worth the upgrade.

Nice. I am still rocking my 5950X. I am looking forward to see what the 9950X3D can do, but I am not hurting for performance at this point.

Nice.

I think my next purchase will be more storage. 4TB M.2 SSD.

Funny enough in multithreaded benchmarks 9800x3d is faster than my old 5900x. That extra IPC and clockrate overcoming that 50% increase in core/thread count.

@BassMan: @04dcarraher: I had to return to Micro Center and replace my Motherboard as it was dead and I wasn't able to get into the bios or even make it to my first screen at all. It was the damn dead Motherboard and so I replaced it with the MSI X670 Tomahawk and to be honest, I'm glad it broke cause it encouraged me to get a much better easier Motherboard over the Aorus and so with that, I welcome my good and nicer Motherboard:

Edit: Everything is good to go and got my new upgrades running smoothly👌

@04dcarraher: So far, so good. I went back to playing Cyberpunk 2077 and I can tell you now the CPU does a nice job but is still CPU-bound in most areas. The 9800X3D isn't nearly enough for Cyberpunk 2077 but still, it's a nice start. Probably whenever the 9900X3D & 9950X3D releases next year, I think they'll get the job done as those CPUs are aiming for more activities as workstations/gaming.

Going into DDR5 is really a great experience, I'm glad I went back to MSI motherboards as the Tomahawk version is very helpful. By the way, I normally overclock my CPUs but for the 9800X3D, I decided to stick with using the factory stock settings 4.7Ghz is more than I need despite I have a premium CPU fan cooler. I could push it over 5.0Ghz if I wanted to but 4.7Ghz is fine since I only play my games in 1440p.

Edit: I don't see myself upgrading the CPU within 4-5 years from now since this is more toward futureproofing. I'm also running an RTX 4070, good GPU but I'm gonna take a closer look on the 5080 and see if that's worth upgrading.

@davillain:

In most games that where cpu bound I've seen a good 20-30 fps increase in fps, but the biggest gains for me is the minimums.

A few things to note...

Processors like the 9950X3D are not going to give you more game performance than a 9800X3D because the games are not making use of more than 8 cores.

I find it hard to believe a 9800X3D is bottle-necking a 4070 in CP2077. More likely the 4070 is the bottle-neck. Are you paying attention to the GPU usage or just going by the overall frame rate?

1440p is going to be more demanding of the CPU than 4K because the CPU has to push more frame to the GPU.

@BassMan: @04dcarraher: Sorry for the late reply, I had to play with it more and updated the bios and such so I can test it properly.

Coming from the 5900X, I must admit, the 9800X3D is the best CPU I ever had in a very long time. I had to tweak my G-sync and get a much better gaming experience. A lot of games really like that extra cache, I’m honestly surprised how much the 3D V-cache helped compared to my 5900X. Replaying Cyberpunk 2077, I'm not bottle-neck with 9800X3D as the GPU is still depending.
