If it's only one thing, then it's when developers fail to deliver a ported console game that feels like a PC game. I mean stuff like huge letters and prompts, games that show you controller prompts instead of keys (Bionic Commando comes to mind), games that have no real graphics options, bad controls... What's more is that games seem to have been dumbed down. You barely ever get a game where you can go prone or lean around corner, for example. Regenerating health. Badly implemented checkpoint systems.

NoAssKicker47

I feel like Black Ops 2 is actually a great example of both the good and bad of that. It was the first COD game I'd played in many years, and I was very pleasently surprised to find a "lean" option, and used the sh!t out of it, all the time, in the campaign. But, it also had one of the worst checkpoint systems I've ever seen. Absolutely no real save game. Dozens of checkpoints per mission, but only like 2 that would actually save after the game was exited. And you'd have to rewatch the mission's opening cutscene when reloading, even if you were at the halfway checkpoint in the mission (sometimes, at least. It also bugged the sh!t out of me how the cutscenes were sometimes skippable, and sometimes not. I couldn't find any pattern. They just wouldn't let you skip them sometimes, for no reason).

Worst thing about PC gaming is the community and the developers. Mostly because they are terrible at gaming and really should just p[lay on consoles instead.

I don't like popping a game in or finally installing one and it doesn't work. On console, every time I put a game in, it works. Period. I guess that's the price to pay for such customizable hardware, but it doesn't hurt less when Call of Juarez won't go past the intro cutscene and Max Payne 3 needs to be played in Compatibility Mode for Windows 7.

This. GFWL just needs to go away entirely. Origin... okay, EA thinks they're hot sh!t, whatever, they can have their little thing. I hardly ever play any EA games. Uplay.. I haven't had much experience with it, but I'd be much happier without it. I just hope no more come up. EA and Ubisoft are huge companies, so I can see them having their little DRM schemes, but I really hope it doesn't turn into a thing where every publisher has their own little shell program to run all their games through. I hope the rest of the smaller publishers out there just recognize and accept Steam's virtual monopoly, and roll with it.

I play all my PC games on my big ole' TV, so I don't like the fact that I can't play everything with an Xbox controller. (I'm certainly not going to win any popularity contests around here lol. Sorry, but I really love Steam's 'Big Picture' mode.)

The continued push by Steam, Origin, GFWL, Ubisoft, etc. to push video games as software I license vs. games I own. There is no reason I should have to continuously log into a corporation's shoddy application to launch a game I want to play in single-player. And if I want to patch my game, I'll log in and let them know. Other than that, they can bugger off. It's none of their damn business what game I'm playing and how long I'm playing it.

draconian DRM. Is there anything worse? Console kids dont have to put up with that type of garbage. Although its slow creeping onto consoles too with online passes. Full on DRM might be included in the next gen of consoles.

The system requirements. I hate having to upgrade because I am not confident with buying and installing new hardware. I also wish we had more cinematic games on the PC. If this is the best platform, why aren't we seeing more games play with the form, the camera angles, like some of the exclusives on PS3??

The other big thing: unify the platform onto Steam and maybe one other like Origin and get rid of all these silly logins. Its annoying having so many different programs because with some of them you might only want to play one game. I'm only using Uplay for FC3 for example.

Yes but this is the reason why the PC is technically the optimal gaming platform. It evolves very fast and allows developers to push the limits, whereas consoles are stuck with the same horse power for years and years.

Bad ports and genric games.

I feel that most AAA games just recycle old gameplay. Foruneatly there are indie developers. Too bad everyone there seems to focus on adeventure/puzzle/platform yadayada.

I just wish that the system requirements were more accurate. I've ran into at least a few games where the "minimum specs" were clearly a lie, as I more than met the "minimum specs" and couldn't run the game for sh!t, at any settings. The Witcher 2, for example. My laptop actually exceeds the minimum requirements, at every turn. Not by much, but just barely. I've got a better CPU than the minimum requirements, more RAM, and a better video card. Still, at absolute bare minimum settings (every single option set to "very low" or "off", and 800x600 res) I get 12-17 fps. Completely unplayable, by any standards. GTA4 is the same way. My laptop actually crushes those minimum specs, by quite a lot, but I still can't get any better than a choppy 18-30, with some brief spikes into the 40s, in small, indoor environments.

"Minimum system requirements" should be a guarantee: "if you meet or exceed these specs, you will get at least 30 fps, at minimum graphics settings".

UI inconsistencies when a game can't recognise whether you are using a controller or a keyboard and mouse set-up. Quite strange to have a game alternate between giving you button number prompts and keyboard key prompts when attempting to tutor your through a game. On a related note it also bothers me when PC games have perfectly functional (and complete) controller support stripped out when ported from consoles. Mass Effect and Beyond Good and Evil come to mind. The assets were already complete, so why remove the option? Mind-boggling. I suppose the last thing is all the hardware compatibility issues that are sometimes never fixed (Tomb Raider Legend 1.2 still requires you turn off many of the graphics features to get around 1/5th of the games' stages to run. The game has been out for years, it is a widely documented issue and yet there is no fix available). Or maybe more precisely I should say the attitude that many publishers bring to PC games whereby they don't offer on-going support.

Not often enough, admittedly. Every once in a while there comes a game that does it, of course. We had Battlefield 3, The Witcher 2, Crysis, Crysis 2, Max Payne 3, now we're going to have Crysis 3. Sadly, just a fraction.

I don't like how PC games went away from full blown expansions to rip off dlc. I don't like how some amazing developers went from making incredible games to being destroyed by big companies (Ensemble being dismantlyed by Microsoft).

Origin ;) Seriously though I'd say bad console-to-pc ports, it's usually just bad optimization, but can also include no controller support (strange since these games would originally be built for controllers) game-breaking bugs, missing features, limited video settings, ect

The lack of guarantee that they will work on your particular set up or rig. That's rarely a problem with consoles. Plus, those long install times...

But, it's all worth it in the end.

I completely agree with this. If you are over the minimum specs for a game, then you should get at least 30 fps with everything off/low. This may not be a big deal to people who upgrade all the time, but for someone like me (I don't mind playing games on low/medium if I have to) it is really annoying when a game isn't even playable on the lowest settings.

I don't like it when sometimes you have to tweak .ini files for configuring settings that are not available in-game. Thank goodness for knowledgeable users who share the tweaks on gaming forums.

You guys don't get it. They are not console ports, they are console games being ported to the PC. Therefore they would be PC ports. PC gaming is dead as .... DEAD! Move on or forever pay too much for your hardware.

Its not utilized by Devs fully anymore. So graphics are shiny or crisp but complete user created MODS are needed for most games to get decent textures etc.

Origin isn't that bad either. I'd say give it as much time as steam has been out and it would be as good as steam, and it actually has a decent offline mode. I despised the idea of EA making their own DD client when they announced it but they've actually done a pretty good job with it.

The amount of money you have to invest in to the hardware side. Consoles are 300 bucks. PCs are far, far more.slateman_basic
It's a high cost up front but you easily make up that difference in PC game sales.

Bad console ports.

SKaREO

You guys don't get it. They are not console ports, they are console games being ported to the PC. Therefore they would be PC ports. PC gaming is dead as .... DEAD! Move on or forever pay too much for your hardware.

lol so they are going to start developing games on consoles for consoles? lol pc gaming is good and so are consoles. fanboy coff coff
