HDTV tubes are even cheaper if you can find any. I got a 26'' HDTV 1080i for 450$ new from best buy last year.

Depending on your location, you could go used with a Tube HDTV from Craig's List or even EBay. I got a fantastic 34" Sony HDTV that is still the best looking TV I have ever seen for only $500 (though it does weigh about 200lbs).

Used HDTV FTW.
