I actually dislike my PC gaming brethren for the opposite reason lol. The ones blinded by nostalgia give us a bad name, the ones that want to halt progress and say that prior games are better simply because theyre more difficult to play, are slower paced, and more.

Look, I get it. Deus Ex is my favorite game of all time. But I dont expect everyone, especially younger gamers/gamers that missed out on it to enjoy it. If you sat me down, and I had never played the original Deus Ex, and let me play three hours of the original, and three hours of the new (Human Revolution), I would without a doubt say that the new one is the superior game. And, for all practical reasons, it is: quicker to get into, better voice acting, good plot, better gameplay. The original is still prefered by me, but I am not so ignorant to proclaim it is the better game.

I can't go back to Morrowind. Why? Because compared to Skyrim, its a pain in the ass to play, takes up too much time and gives too little reward, and it is dated.

Outside of nostalgia, there is little to no reason to go back and replay Morrowind.

You've got a serious case of egocentrism. Just an observation, not a insult. If you choose to ignore (like i know you will, probably chuckle and brush it off aswell), it's cool. I mean, f*ck. I've seen you write these missinformed and self-centered posts about people's preferance of old games for a wile now, and there were probably other people that called you on that aswell.

Though you should, instead, grasp on the common fact that the defining aspects of a game that did not age well are hindering elements that are more intrusive then they were back then thanks to modern advancements, such as the framerate, the graphics and the controls. And in this context enjoyment is tied to the leniency of the person playing, which is subjective.. Everything els (like gameplay changes) is solely subjective, and kind of irrelevant.

Can you elaborate on that please?
I mean, do you find the factual scientific arguments that i gave you the stupid things you ever heard in your life?
Do you deny that you rely on your sight/eyes more than anything when playing a game???
Morrowind was great when it came out...now you cant go back to it because everything in it is obsolete(graphics, gameplay mechanics, animations, voice acting, the sound in general etc.)

And dont tell me you play Morrowind for the story...

And this, boys and girls, is the reason everyone hates PC gamers.

I have a feeling you simply don't hold the same appreciation for certain games as other people. Human Revolution in many aspects is terribad (particularly V/O), and doesn't own up to half the charm of the original Deus Ex game sadly. Quicker to get into? Human Revolution starts rather slowly and painfully if you ask me. Deus Ex literally gets right into the game after a brief dialogue, and lets you adventure and explore right away. Etc. And again, if you had the same appreciation for Morrowind as many of us have - Skyrim is the one that's a pain in the ass to play. It's not just dumbed down - it's just flat out dumb. I didn't play Morrowind until a good four years after release, and I didn't play Deus Ex until atleast a decade after release. How's that for nostalgia?

Nostalgia you say? Want to know the sad part =(? I buy more "old" games then new ones because most new ones are simply to dumb, easy, lack in depth and complexity with gameplay on the level of "Bash head on keyboard randomly to win". More rewarding to play new games? Sadly its been a long time since i played a this gen game where i had any real satisfaction from beating the game.

Not every old game is good... But there is a lot of "meh" / "bad" and overhyped games the last few years where their goal is to simply remove things so that anyone without a brain can play it.

Sadly i lost the image with the level progression with old games vs new games.

I only have the original Morrowind and none of the expansions, does this work still on just the original game?

I will take all the ultra-defensive posts as a sign that I hit a nerve. Sorry if I came off as arrogant, or egocentric, or anything like that. It was not my intention to be that way, nor to offend. I guess we can add classic games to the list of topics we can't discuss (along with religion, politics, and women) :P

I am not saying we need to abandon our classic and "old school" games, nor the ideals and standards they have set. But to shoot down newer games for taking risks, changing a few core mechanics, and making things more accessable is pretty close-minded imo.

Why can't we live in a world where we can enjoy both sides of the spectrum? Why do I have to choose between being a "cultured" gamer and choosing a retro RPG like Legend of Grimrock, or a "brainless" gamer and playing Skyrim?

I am happy to say I can enjoy both.

I don't think you understand. You practically wrote that anyone prefering a old game over a new one is blinded by nostalgia. It's not about 'insulting' a old game or whatever you meant by that bolded part. Hell, i think Morrowind is a barren piece of sh*t with brain dead AI and a horrible artstyle. I had to add over 30 mods to make it playable.

But that's my own truth, i'm not gonna put that perspective on a pedestral and assume everyone thinks the same. Read what i said above about subjectivity to understand. You hit a nerve because your post was egocentric, plain and simple. Not because you can't diss old games, man.

I am also happy to say that i can enjoy both. I've ben playing Might and Magic 6, for a few weeks now, and thoroughly enjoying it more than Skyrim. I've also ben playing Fallout: New Vegas (patched to perfection) and thoroughly enjoying it more than Fallout 2. Get my point?
