If you want to engage in computer gaming, make it two gigs. Also, I'd be rather surprised if your graphics card and cpu are up to gaming, considering the fact that your system RAM was so low.
Here's what you want to do: Hit Start, hit Run, type in 'DXDiag', save it as a .txt file, and post it here.
I'll have you know that I've been able to play many goodgames for my computer (but bored with them though). Info below

That thing ain't worth upgrading though, its junk,it only has PCI slots and supports 1GB of RAM at most, but if you can't get or build a new PC,get Shogun or Medieval: Total War,you should run those games alright on that POS (If you don't mind RTS games) but if you need FPS/Action,you should run the first Half Life game well, look into that.
You should really consider to drop PC gaming with a computer as ancient as that...Rottenberry
Mabye he likes the classics..... and only the classics....
Title pretty much says it all, can someone help me out in finding a good 3d game for a 256 MB PC? I'm into mostly action games and fps games, but i bought good games like Brothers in arms, and resident evil 4, but took them back to the store. Because my comp can't handle them. So can someone help me out please.Turwrakiun
Don't waste your money on games. Get a new PC. Seriously.
If you upgraded your RAM and got a decent older video card (probly all of $100 total), you could play alot of great games. Everything by Blizzard, Command and Conquer: First Decade, the non-Source based Half Life games, Age of Empires 1+2, and alot of others. Dont listen to alot of the kids here which think if a game wasnt made in the past 3 months its terrible.I grew up on PC gaming in the mid ninties and would have killed for a PC that had a 3d capable video card...Greyskies87+1 and I recommend Giants Citizen Kabuto.
play freedom fighters which runs on 256 and is a really good game as well as hitman 2AK-476
why did you dig this one up??? i'm sure he's not searching for a game EIGHT MONTHS after creating this thread!!!

Umm I am pretty sure he meant http://www.gamespot.com/pc/action/freedomthebattleforli/index.html?tag=result;title;0 which is a great game and I think it will run on it.If you upgraded your RAM and got a decent older video card (probly all of $100 total), you could play alot of great games. There are many classic games that are far superior and don't require a monster rig to play.
Quake 3
Half Life + CS 1.6 + DOD + TF + any other incredible mod for HL1.
Diablo II
Warcraft III
The Sims
Sim City
Theif 1+2
AVP + AVP2
Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi outcast / Academy
Unreal II
Im sure if you looked around you could find some other great games!
umm is it a cardboard box pc or something? lol i used to have one liek that but gaming was impossible on it just like surfing the net...lolSOTEI know, you'd get more speed out of using a paper plate! ha
He's got a hard-wired Intel graphics chip that uses 64 MB of his RAM. Any game needing more than 64 MB won't run correctly, if at all. I started out with one of those PCs, and Dell said you cannot upgrade the graphics.
I bought a better system fast.
if you have $50 kicking around and live in the us or canada newegg will sell your memory for $10 and boost you to 1GB and then get an ati hd 2400pro tada your now certified to handle games such as painkiller and morrowind on high.
Up your RAM to 1 GB, and find a PCI video card like a Geforce 8400GS/9400GT though they are a bit pricey. It's not much, but it will make many newer games playable, like Far Cry, Doom 3, Half Life 2, alot of stuff. But honestly I'd just get a new computer. That thing has ancient components.
You should really consider to drop PC gaming with a computer as ancient as that...Rottenberryhmm no he can still play 293894328 great games released back than games like Half Life,Unreal Tournament,Serious Sam,Alien vs Predator 2 etc should work without problem hell im playing Half Life on my second savage4 32 mb graphic card powered pc
quit racking him for having junk parts i have practically the same pc in the hand of my younger brother and i bet every penny i have it can handle any game just as good as his upgraded could and then SOME!
pentium D 2.8ghz, 2gb ram (ddr 667), hd 2400pro (known game sit can handle at least on non lowest quality: rainbow 6 vegas, oblivion, DoW2, portal, half-life 2)

Even if he could that p4 2,8ghz is not enough for anything released after 2007 and . i say save money and build a decent pc. if you want games anything from 2003 and earlier would be ok. Some great old shooters are quake 3,serious sam, blood 2,aliens vs predator 1 and 2,max payne 1 and 2,deus x,half life 1,maybe unreal tournament 2004 and system shock
.... there are no good games for that little of ram, im sorry. machockey
What? So you're saying that good PC games didn't exist until computer's had more than 256Mb of RAM?!
There are plenty of great games he could play on that old dinosaur, like Half-Life 1 for a start. Then there's the Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale series, Baldur's Gate 2 is the best game ever made imo. There are also many others: Max Payne, Call of Duty 1, No One Lives Forever, Counter Strike, Morrowind, GTA:VC, NWN1, Planescape:Torment, Thief, Sims, Diablo, Starcraft, Deus Ex, Trackmania, UT. Your graphics card may struggle even more than your lack of RAM with some of them games but there's a decent list there most of which you should be able to run just fine.

dude you clearly have never seen a pci card slot and have never bothered to look for gpu's for one before there are plenty of options (some even recent) for them (most recent cards available are the geforce 9xxx series (as in 9400gt, 9500gt, etc.) and as for ram as i said plenty of place sell older standard of memory and his cpu is solid for a hyperthread.
and just to prove this here you go off newegg:

I come from a simular predictiment of the OP. I had a dell 2.8ghz with only a pci slot and 1.25gbs of ram. I bought the 8400, its not worth it. Really, even with the upgrades the cpu tends to bottleneck everything, the only recent game i got good performence in was cod4. As a victim, i do not recommend.[QUOTE="aura_enchanted"][QUOTE="adamosmaki"] he cant upgrade anything except ram.he dont have a pci-express slot or even an agp.
