Well, I figured it's time to upgrade my graphics card, however, I don't know much about computer hardware anymore. I built my computer last time but I haven't been following anything else since.

So, here's my computer right now:

  • Windows XP
  • ASUS Motherboard http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131539R
  • Intel Pentium 4 3.2ghz processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16819116197
  • 1 Gig Ram http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820141210
  • Radeon X800 256mb GDDR3 PCI Express Video Card (no link, sorry)

I'm not sure how to find anything else, or if you need any or all of this stuff to help me. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. My max budget is $400 (which I really don't want to go up to) but I'd much rather spend in the less than $300 range. I know my computer isn't great right now, but it was built 2 years ago. Heck, maybe I don't even have to upgrade. I just want to play LOTRO and other new games at decent settings. Any advice? Thanks in advance!

well wrong fourm... pc hardware... anyway

so it depends on if you want new games as in upcoming or new as in already out... you could get a nice dx9 card for like $100-200 i'd get the radeon X1950XT just because its relatively cheap and the best dx9 card out, but if you ever plan on upgrading to vista then you could run dx10 which is what future games will use (but they will support dx9 just not look quite as decent) then in that case for best performance i'd recomend a radeon HD2900XT which is around $400 (your budget)... or you could quite possibly just get an 8800GTS 320mb which is still dx10 and still gonna max out almost all games at a fairly decent res... and you might still have enough to buy a vista upgrade disc....
