Need Help, PC Won't Boot Up

Hello everyone,

I hope some of you can help me out here.

I've been struggling with a really annoying problem for some time now and this is what's going on:

I recently bought a **** load opf new PC parts and i started building everything. now when i turn on the power the Fans in my case and the one's in my PSU and on my CPU Cooler spin for about 1 second and then go off, i can repeat this by turning off the Power on the back of ym PC and then turning it back on and then it does exactly the same.

I figured it was my motherboard so i replaced it with my older Gigabyte MA790X-DS4 (AM2+) Mobo and to my suprise i got the exact same problem.

Everything started for about 0.5 seconds and then everything went quiet again.

System Specs:

ASUS P6T Deluxe V2, Core i7 920 @2.66 ghz 6 GB of Triple-Channel OCZ 1600 Mhz RAM, 1200 Watt Xilence PSU, 9800 GTX+ (which has nothing to do with it)

After that i tried my older rig:

Gigabyte MA790X-DS4. AM2+ Phenom X4 9550 @2.2 Ghz, 6GB of DDr-2 Dual Channel 667 mhz.

Because of it failing on 2 rigs.. i'm guessing it's my power supply, but i haven't got a 2nd PSU to test it nor do i have ANOTHER board...

Please Help...

Also the PSU isnt more then 1 month old.

Edit: I've gone trough every process of takign out every single component down to just the CPU and no RAM and stuff but still the same problem, i've double-triple-triple checked all connections yet i can't seem to find the problem.

I haven't got a spare power supply that fits these motherboards so that's a minor problem.

Another Edit: YES i've installed the screws in my case and the boards do NOT touch the case, I've also tried making them work OUTSIDE the case (even putting them back in the Plastic and back out) nothing worked.

Have you installed the stand-offs? They are these screws which lift the motherboard slightly so it doesn't touch the case which can cause that problem. This happened to me, I didn't install them, but when I did everything worked fine.

right now there's not much in ym case xD and no it isn't i build about 3 PC's b4 all working with no problems, but i have experienced the same problem with an ASUS board before, which was fixed by buying a new (gigabyte motherboard) and i can't take pics now lol im almost off to bed :Peusie

I've changed my PSU 3 times now and there's no change so it's clear it's not the PSU

today i brought the motherboard back to the shop and guess what? they told me it started up right away and no troubles at all!?!?!

I was speechless and there was not much more i could do then take the thing back home and install everything again, buty i figured i might do it different.

I first put on the CPU and the Cooler then i connected the PSU to the Mobo and guess what! IT STARTED!

So i let it run for about 30 secs and nuffing wrong.

So i turn it off and put in my RAM sticks (which are described above) and here we go again!

The MoBo fails to stay on and the problem begins all over so i take out the RAM again (all of it) and start... it starts up.. then the RAM light turns on and the mobo goes off... 3 secs later the mobo goes back on untill the light below the RAM Slots activates and the Mobo goes silent again, this went on for like 2 minutes and i decided to stop the test as it was clear that this was not doing anything..

This test was performed without placing it in the case it was on a static free plastic and it's obvious the Motherboard and PSU CAN run fine...

Had exactly the same problem when I was putting together a machine for my brother. In the end it turned out to be a faulty power supply. Worst thing was that I first thought it was a used motherboard I had gotten from a friend so I bought a new one, and on top of that the power supply I used was brand new. Thus I ended up buying an extra motherboard and an extra power supply. In the end I was so relieved that I didn't even bother returning the power supply, which might working for all I know, just not compatible with the motherboards I used, even though they should be. Some fancy power saving earthwatts thingie..

Oh and another thing; This is what happened to me with another computer.

On your motherboard you might have a 4-pin and a 20-pin power sockets either separately or together as a 24-pin socket. Same thing with your power supply. Sometimes they just won't work together.

I tried putting the 24-pin connector from my power supply on the corresponding socket on my motherboard, but no dice.

In the end I had to use the 20 first pins on my motherboard leaving the last 4 unused and then connect the other 4 pins from my power supply on a separate 4-pin socket on my motherboard.

Most of the time if your power supply has the 24-pin connector you can easily clip off the extra 4 pins, there's supposed to be a thin plastic bridge between the 20 and 4 pin connectors.

Now could I be any more unclear about what I'm tryin to say? :O

Judging by all of this i'm returning my entire PC to the shop for inspection, but first i'll make em take a look at my RAM since the problem seems to start when the RAM is or HAS BEEN put in the Slots.. although it still has the same weird as problem even when i take em back out, it's fine without the RAM (B4 it was in atleast)

It sure sounds like its your RAM. I have a theory, although I don't know a whole lot about DDR3 Uber RAM:) I looked up your motherboard on the ASUS website...

And If you look under where it lists the compatible Ram, it lists DDR3 triple channell 1600 (O.C.) Now, I assume that means overclocked. So natively that mobo only supports up to 1333. However, I was under the impression that ram will automatically underclock to whatever the max. the mobo will support. For instance if I put DDR2 800 ram in a board that only supported up to DDR2 667. Thats just a theory, maybe you can try the RAM from your older rig? But like you said, your Ram could just be bad.

that problem is caused because something is shorting, a couple of reasons could be

install stand offs are you sure you installed them before putting mother board in case?

take off stand offs that are not being used: check to see if any stand offs are not matching the holes and are touching underneath the mobo,

last thing to do,

take out the motherboard, leave ram, cpu, heatsink on, put the mother board on top of its box(NOT in case) take your powersupply and connect JUST the 24 pin and the 4/8pin cpu connections on the motherboard, once you did that plug your powercord into the power supply then, get something metal (anything should do use a screw driver or something, then touch only the 2 pins for the power switch, this should cause the motherboard to turn on, once it does see if it works...(make sure to have your monitor connected to your motherboard to see if theres video)

now if it doesnt work something is wrong with either your mobo, cpu, psu, memory,
