Just like the topic title says, I am looking for a laptop that can run most games on medium settings. I have been leaning to the Lenovo Ideapad Y580 ($950, http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/controller/e/web/LenovoPortal/en_US/catalog.workflow:item.detail?GroupID=457&Code=59359513&category_id=AC523278A4F13F27A84F5F5622D1AC7A) but I am open to other laptop brands (such as Sager/Clevo on xoticpc.com). Any thoughts? I would prefer an I7 process but i5 will do if the graphics card is good (obviously discrete graphics is what I want). HD screen may or may not be needed and I do not care for SSD (which would be too expensive for this price range anyway).

Y580 is a good gaming laptop. The GTX 660M inside is about on par with a GTX 460. There is no real difference between an i5 and i7 with gaming so what you want to look at is their clock rates. A 5400rpm hard drive will hurt your over loading times and possibly affect gaming experience. So your best option their is to get a Seagate hybrid SSD or a full blown SSD. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148940

Maybe you can take a look at xotic pc's FORCE 16F3.

For about USD950 u get

3rd gen I7, 8 gig ram, gtx 670m, 500 gig hdd. OS Not included

About 10 pounds I think. full keyboard with numpad i think. no backlit keys tho

Lots of customization options if u want to spend more.

Just make sure you get at least a 17", all the power in the world is worthless on a crappy little 15" screen. Just my opinion. I made the mistake of taking better hardware over a larger screen and regret it.
