Need help upgrading my memory

The maximum memory capacity on my motherboard is 2 gigs. Is that the total max I can go to, or is that the max per slot?

My motherboard is a Nividia Nforce 680i SLI and I have two 1 gig slots of memory installed with two slots left open.

what OS are you running (and 32 or 64-bit)

if it says a limit like 2gb thats jsut bollocks your board can take up to as much ram as you can find in terms of stick density and number of sticks.

so like you can probably have 16gb of ram max (but anything after 8gb is pointless for anything most users do)

i say this because n-force boards were discontinued before 18+ gb ram kits were introduced (or used)

indeed it does. so you could (at most) get another gb or ram. before you would need to upgrade to 64-bit windows

Its been a while since i upgraded memory on a computer, I know its simple once you know what type of memeory you have. My current computer uses DDR2. Is that the only thing I need to remember to know what memory is actually usable on my computer?

Pretty much. If your worried about it, there should be a memory compatibility list on your motherboard MFG's webpage.
