What's a good starter RTS? Company of Heroes is kind of overwhelming me an I'm only on level 4. Is SupCom hard? Because that game looks awesome.

Excuse me but I've never played Ages of Empires and I don't know anything about it. I just want to get into RTS games because everyone is talking about StarCraft 2 and I want to hop on the bandwagon.

Yeh excuse you. If you never played of Age of Empires, that's seriously depressing man. Non-gamers have played that game. And the Starcraft 2 thing? Bullcrap.

However, to get into a bit more into Age of Empires II. It's an RTS game where you choose a civilization and fight enemies. The best civilizations are the Turks and Teutons (Nobody ever disagrees). Each civilization has a Unique Unit, which makes the game unique!

Ahahah thank you thank you

Sounds like you just got into RTS gaming. Welcome. It is normal to feel "overwhelmed." All gamers do at some point in time in any RTS game. That reason is because you have to control more than one thing at the same time.

The best thing to do is not give up on Company of Heroes. It is game of the year for a reason. Go here to get some tips on how to beat some of the missions if you're stuck. http://www.gamefaqs.com.

Supreme Commander is probably as hard if not harder than Company of Heroes. That is because it caters to established RTS gamers which you have just started to become.

Try turning the difficulty level down. Really it just takes practice to get good at RTS games like anything else.

Warcraft 3 for example is a game that is easy to get into but very hard to master. The level of play on battle.net is extremely high. So you have to dedicate time, due research, watch replays to start winning. The nice thing is you can always go back and watch a replay of the last game you were just in.

In conclusion i'd say finish Company of Heroes first. Then try Warcraft 3: Reign of Chaos along with Warcraft 3: The Frozen Throne. If you can get into these games you'll be ready for anything. They take time to learn, some of the missions are hard, but in the end you will have a blast. Both games were highly rated in Gamespot.

Starcraft over Age of Empires 3, it is much easier to get into. Plus way less system requirements. More newbie friendly than AOE 3.

No AoE III's better than Starcraft. It's got more factions.

Command and Conquer games are also easy to get into. They were my first RTS. try the CnC3 demo and if it runs (and if you liked it), get teh full version.

Company of heroes, and Supcom are both very good games, but they are hard to get into, if you have had limited experiencees with RTS's.

I would start with CnC3, Starcraft is good too, but you will get demolished online, because many people have been playing for 10 years.

For somebody just starting out in the RTS genre, I'd say go with either one of the Command and Conquer games (either the Decade Pack or C&C3), Warcraft 3, or Starcraft.  After you've dabbled around with those, you should venture out to the other games like Rise of Nations, Age of Empires 3, Homeworld 1 and/or 2, or Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War.  Once you get used to those second-tier games, then try out Supreme Commander and Company of Heroes (CoH uses similar game mechanics to Dawn of War...but it is much much harder).

listen to these guys, besides that tree guy.  sup com and CoH are harder RTS's but just keep playing and look around on the internet for help and you'll get it.  warcraft, Age of Empires, and all those are fairly easy RTS's, and fun too
