this is my current rig

7800GT 256MB
3500+ AMD athlon CPU
1GB Corsair RAM

it's pretty bad for todays games. but im not looking to update my PC for Crysis or anything, i just wanna get some better framerate for Bioshock. i can run it surprisingly well; mostly on high settings with some settings turned down. should i get a new videocard and cpu? or should i just stick with what i have?

The video card ain't that bad, I wouldn't say it's obsolete but if you want to play such new games like Crysis or BioShock then consider either 8800GT or HD 3870/3850. Andyeh, you definitely need a new dual core CPU. If you're on budget go with AMD X2, otherwise Intel Core 2 Duo E4xxx series or E6xxx series will suit your need.

AMD X2 4000+ EE - A good AM2 mobo - 2048mb DDR2 RAM - HD 3850 - Corsair 450w psu - etc etc. pick what you want with it but with a AMD X2 and HD 3850 you could make a 600$ rig that can max pretty much everything cept crysis at 1280x1024 / 1600x1080.
