I already have a nice gaming desktop, but as far as portability, all I have is a crappy Compaq laptop from the stone age that overheats too quickly and freezes frequently. So I was thinking of getting a netbook for my schoolwork and such. I've done a little shopping around and I think this one might be nice to get.

Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks in advance.

No suggestions - just wanted make make sure that you know, that that netbook is not for gaming. It can run office (slowly) and browsing and such light tasks. I suggest you read some Netbook reviews and comparisons.

Reading your post, I think you are aware of this, but better safe than sorry. :)

Oh yeah, by no means will I use it for gaming or anything too intensive. I just want something that I can carry around and surf the internet and check e-mail with. Being able to run Office would be nice; it doesn't have to be super-fast.

I'll do some more research like you said. If there's anything for a better value, let me know.

They're basically all the same. I'd just go for the cheapest 6-cell version you can find. The only things to really consider are the screen size, hard drive capacity and weight, if you're looking for a non-gaming netbook.

I was looking at that because there's a good deal on it right now ($40 off). The only thing that concerns me about it is the keyboard. It has a slightly modified QWERTY layout that looks like it might be awkward for touch typists (i.e. the number keys are slightly smaller and the top letter row is lined up with middle row keys). I plan on using this for some word processing and spreadsheet applications as well. Does anyone know how this keyboard feels?

Gateway LT3103 or Acer Burst. Get somethign with 2gb of ram, thats really the only requirement. If you can find an Aspire One with 2gb of ram that is good too. And decent keyboard.

I second this. Nvidia Ion really boosts up the performance. I'm not sure about battery life though. Intel Atom + GMA 945 can't even run YouTube HD videos properly.

I'd suggest the Dell Mini 10v and Snow Leopard it. $300 (or less) + $30 retail copy of OS. it's pretty dope

oh and I say the Mini 10v as opposed to a different netbook because it's the best netbook to install Snow Leopard on.

battery life is 6 hours if doing light load.. heavy load a.k.a. playing cs on your 2 hour break from class but you can't leave campus which is LAME cause its a waste of gas then i'd say 2 hours and 30 min or 3 hours at most..

just find an outlet imo.
