so, my dad got a new computer october of 07 a dell inspirion 531, and he absolutely hates windows vista, which is what it came with. so, me being a computer genius (:D) got a copy of XP, i shall not reveal how, and installed it. i couldn't find the gfx drivers, so i called dell and asked which ones. found them, installed them, just fine.

the computer is operating great, other than our little network problem. i called dell once again, they said you need the nvidia driver set for the motherboard, as the wireless card is fully integrated into the motherboard. unfortunately, XP doesn't recognize the drivers as they are not xp supported and only for vista. if someone can find the xp drivers of this, its a problem solved, and you get a cookie.

so here's my theory: i have an old linksys network card, its about a year old. its from my brothers pc, and it works great, no flaws in it. so, my question/theory....

i wanna install the linksys card into the dell inspirion 531 and then use that card as my wireless card. is there a way to install this card, and use it, and the computer discards/doesn't read the integrated wireless chip? this is where my weakness is, working with network.

thanks for the help, dudes.

You can disable the on-board/intergrated network adaptor via the system manger tool in windows and install your older one. Let me warn you though if your opening the side case of the computer you may loose the warrenty.

The integrated NIC integrated into the chipset, I beleive your motherboard is nForce 4, did you try the nVidia drivers? There are four options for an AMD based system under "Product Type" when you choose "nForce" and then choose "nForce 4 series". I don't know exactly which one you need, but it's definately there, hopefully this helps.
