Diablo 3 looks great from the videos I have seen, but would I have to play the first 2 for the story or I can just jump right into D3?

diablo was pretty good in that you didnt need to play the last two. this being said if you do your experience is that much the richerDiablo 3 looks great from the videos I have seen, but would I have to play the first 2 for the story or I can just jump right into D3?

The game story is just basics, you can catch up to it on wikipedia for example (there's a dedicated Diablo wiki domain), if you'll really like the basics, you can get yourself immersed in the sea of information that is the entire lore from the books, they just released new ones to explain certain Diablo 3 hints and extend the basic information you'll get in the game.
I've also never played a Diablo game. I don't even really understand the hype surrounding this one. Not my type of game at all though. Great for those who love it, always exciting to have a game release that you were waiting for for a long time
My understanding is that the majority of players have no idea what's going on (including myself) just point clicky. The story is there but it's ignorable. If you really care the books would be much better to learn what's going on, the games are just simple fun.Diablo 3 looks great from the videos I have seen, but would I have to play the first 2 for the story or I can just jump right into D3?

Yea, I'm surprised it's so popular with the pc players. I would think dungeon crawlers with somewhat tactical and interesting combat like ToEE, IWD, Wizardry games would be more appreciated than the mindless clickfests that these games are.I've also never played a Diablo game. Whatever floats someone's boat I guess. Icewind Dale and Wizardry are not so tactical though. ToEE is and it is also one of the few games I can tolerate the turn based combat. It is just sad that is such a buggy piece. But to be honest I sometimes like a game I just can play with my mind put on zero. Certainly in the field I am working in.[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"]

I think it's because people adored Diablo II all those years ago and now this is releasing and they want to play just cos it's Diablo and to recapture the Nostalgia and magic of before. More of the same goodness so to speak. If it was a game under any other name by a different dev but the exact same otherwise people would probably not have as much interest.
Honestly to me the gameplay looks very boring and dull. But glad a game is coming out others are enjoying and will more than likely meet the hype

Which is alot more than a Diablo game. (which isn't tactical AT ALL)[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"]

Idk, it's just really boring to me, just clicking on one thing after another like that. Not trying to down it or anything, as alot of ppl seem to like it. Just giving my opinion.
Have you tried the Circle of 8 modpack for ToEE ? It's really a must for that game.

Since when has PC been all about tactical? Diablo is twitch/hardcorelootgrind/pvp ... with all those elements its no so simplistic undearneath, Diablo III extends heavily on these concepts (well, when pvp is released aswell).[QUOTE="seanmcloughlin"][QUOTE="bussinrounds"] Yea, I'm surprised it's so popular with the pc players. I've always thought of Icewind Dale as the thinking person's Diablo.

I always thought Icewind Dale was a book by R.A. Salvatore. You do not have to play the previous games. I recommend watching the following youtube clips to become familiar with the story up to where Diablo 3 begins. You can opt to play the games but they have seriously aged which could make it frustrating to play.
