hi guys

i am planning to buy a new CPU and Motherboard for my new gaming rig.

if i have to chose between E8400 and E8500, which one should i choose? the price difference is very very small. just 10 bucks.

also how many years of gaming can i expect from E8400 or E8500, 2 GB RAM 1066 MHz and ATI HD4870?

thanks in advance :)

1. E8500 if it's only 10 bucks. 2. I'd say about 2-3 tops,a eon in PC Hardware.

1. Depends on how much more it is,though if money isn't a problem,go for it. 2. Not performance-wise,it effects how far you can OC your CPU though.

Agreed...

10 Bucks is no big difference... I'll buy E8500 and would always go for Nvidia instead of ATI.

Lucky if you can play for next1 yearwithchanging technology and game engines.good luck :)

its like if i go for e8500, then i can get a good mo bo and 1066 mhz RAM. if i go for Q9450, then i will have to buy a cheaper mo bo and 800 mhz ram. and the price of both configs comes out to be almost same. but as RAM clock speeds don't make any difference to performance, which one should i go with?-- Config A- E8500 MSI P45 NEO3 FR G. Skill F2-8800 CL5D - 4GBPI (2GB x 2) 1066 MHz Config B- Q9550 MSI P43 NEO F G. Skill F2-8800 CL5D - 4GBPI (2GB x 2) 800 MHz both cost almost same. Config B is costlier only by a few bucks. so which one of these will last longer? or can you suggest any better configs?

As your processors will not run over 1333FSb unless OCd like mad and that is quite possible withC2Q processors ,MB's diff wont count much.... P43 can be OCd to 1600Mhz... so c2Q with p43 is not a bad combination...

As far as ram is considered i will spend some more and go for 8GIGs and if you dont want to spend alot then 2nd one is a good combination considering 12MB Cache and 1333 Mhz for the peocessor. You will definatly have some good gaming experience....

If you like to OC or know how, I've heard people doing good things with the E8400. If you don't OC, then pick up the E8500. If your motherboard will support 1066 RAM, then get it. If you want to save a few bucks you can pick up decent DDR2 800 RAM, you won't notice a difference in performance when gaming between the two. I'd also suggest going for 4GB, this way if you have Vista 64bit or if you get Windows 7 64bit in the future, you'll have ample RAM available to you. Plus it's pretty cheap and it never hurts to have a little more RAM then what you need. As for the GPU you're looking at, see if you can get a 4870 1GB version if you're gaming at a resolution of 1680x1050 or greater. The 1GB version of that card performs on par with Nvidia's GTX 260 cards. You should be able to get a good 2-3 years (if not maybe 4) of good gaming from this setup. Don't believe the hype from people that say you need to spend money upgrading your computer every year. As long as you play games at medium or better settings, you're going to be getting console performance or better out of your PC.

get the quad setup memory speed makes very little difference, although for gaming you'd get the same performance with 800mhz ram and it would save you as quads aren't very use full for gaming.

If I was a low end gamer like you, I would save my money as much as possible.

well my PC was high end that time. i don't remember what the config was, but it was better than what most of the people i knew had at that time. then i moved to AMD dual core + 8600 GT, then a Q6600 + 8600 GT. but i want a second gaming rig. after three years i will be moving out for education. so want to buy a PC just now that can play games atleast for the next 3 years on medium.

I'd go for the corsair hx620W. It's certified 80plus efficient and it's modular.

Sigh_han

even VX550W is 80+ certified. and 620w is out of my budget :(
