So i picked a new laptop yesterday,:

http://www.bestbuy.ca/en-CA/product/hewlett-packard-hp-pavilion-15-6-laptop-featuring-amd-phenom-ii-quad-core-p960-dv6-6020ca-black-dv6-6020ca/10167600.aspx?path=1e680b36ce1c91d2bb413903a2ce172ben02

Specs are:

AMD Phenom II Quad Core P960 1.8 GHz

6 GB DDR3 ram AMD Radeon HD 6470M

w/ 512 dedicated ram

Purchased a new desktop not to long ago but I needed a new laptop for the go and I though this would have no problem running tf2. Now the problem is im only getting around 10 fps (:(). The only game i do play is tf2 and i thought for sure this would run it at a decent frame rate. What can i do to get it up? Also, i was told that i have to change up some video card settings on this laptop when i decide to use it for gaming (according to the bestbuy dude). All help is much appreci
ated.

Is there any way of having the card leach off the other 6 gigs of ram if possible?

thats dissappointing that it wont run but i think i know why.. portal 2 is probably to blame.. with every game they release valve updates the source engine.. while the system req. dont change the strain on those cards gets worse and your fps will drop..

The TF2 engine hasn't been u[dated to portal 2's engine revision. I doubt it will either. Portal 2's branch introduces a major overhaul to Source Engine's lighting, along with other updates, a huge change like that can't easily be distributed in a patch, and may require heavy tweaking to adjust to TF2's art style. TF2 should run better for you as well, i got better performance than you with a integrated 4200 in my mobo, which is much weaker than your lappy's card.

The only thing thats leaving me scratching my head is that my laptop from 2009 (2 gigs, duel core with a built in chipset) had no problem running tf2. Should i turn down the resolution and settings to see if my fps gets better?

I run it at its native resolution, 1024x720. Also, everything is on reccommended settings (the ones that are stared *)

Maxed out it and also ran it at low settings and fps is between 10-17 almost unplayable.

The graphics are good and everythings is looking good, just the framerate is killing me. I dont want to return this laptop as i got it for a wicked deal.

(btw, cybersix was an amazing show, which they made season 2).

Does it perform normally in other stuff, you should be defiantly getting higher framerates than that.

Not sure what you mean by other stuff but everything gaming related looks nice but runs like crap (including older games like half life 2)
