This is just incredible, now if they're able to implement that into games, it'll be awesome. Though, the death scenes may get too realistic. But, it's awesome, way better than any heads I've seen so far.

in the words of Borat: Wow wow wee wow!

AWESOME! I cant wait till games start to properly start to use DX10. Did you know lost planet Dx10 does nothing to improve the picture? strait from gamespots mouth. The DX10 version aparantly is just for better FPS.

That is absolutely amazing. Great find.

About 10 years ago, I remember being impressed with the nVidia tech demo of a pond(the one that generates water ripples on the fly). Now I see this. I'm excited to see what they will come up with in the next 10 years.

Tech demos mean nothing to me. Nothing in them actually gets implemented into games...

Doesn't mean much. It won't be able to run that in a game since you'll have like 10 of them with bodies and an environment.

Well, with the way graphics cards are going, it wont' be long before all of that is quite possible in a regular game. :)

You rarely see a character up close in a game so it doesn't matter if it's that detailed.

That's pretty amazing. I wonder how big the explosion would be if I tried to run it on a 7900 GS.

i hate seeing this head, because it means that we all will have to continue updating our hardware for a long time to come...... if this is the benchmark of what things can look like, to have the whole world rendered like this would consume insane cpu/gpu power.

It's not possible. How it works is that they make the GPU only render that one head and nothing else. It has no A.I. and there isn't much going on, that's how they're able to do tech demos that look that good. We still aven't been able to achieve the graphics shown in the FX series tech demo(You now, that butterfly girl, Crysis will actually be the first game to be able to match and surpass those graphics) So actually being able to achieve graphics of that magnitude is still a long ways off.

yeah yeah, everyone talking about how much hardware power you'd need to get this into a game, but dont forget also the TIME it takes to create this level of detailed modelling, texturing and lighing, at the moment not only is it way too expensive hardware wise to create this in a game but also way too expensive time wise. When you look at the level of detail in games like gears of war let me tell you right now, there are very few games companies that have artists with that level of talent, and its not just about being good, but you need to create quality work quickly to meet the deadlines. here is an interesting link

That's an incredible model. I'm more interested in the CGI Movie aspect of this, as it would create amazing movies with models like that.

However, games are a different story. My card (x1950xt) could render a 3d model as good as that, it would just take me a long time.

If you're rendering something in a 3d application (or that is, software rendering), your graphics card has NOTHING to do with it.  Only thing it does is display the model in the viewport before rendering. :)

That's a little too real for my taste, plus it'll screw the industry by increasing game development time and cost.  It's amazing though, basically a photograph.

i think that better development tools will come out that will fix most of the current issues in relation to high quality (visually) content

Even from a distance you would notice the increase in quality just like you will when comparing GTA3 to GTA 4. Plus this also gives you an idea of how the rest of a game will look in the future which is very close to photorealistic.
