Nehalem is supposed to come out next month. I don't think making definite PC plans right now is such a smart idea.

well right now the pc is 2600...so if it goes to 3000 thats okay for me

i dont want overpriced cards just because they are newer or have slight advantages though ;)

the EAH is between 300 and 400 depending on wich stores

so i guess between 500-600 would be okay...since i want 2cards it would be about 400$ more

The HD4870 performs better than the HD3870X2 and also costs less. Get two HD4870s or a single HD4870X2.

well if NEHALEM comes at the end of the year taht means that older stuff will get slight price cuts...so the pc i want now would be 2200 maybe instead of 2600...and i dont wantoverpriced and overpowered pieces...

just as an example :

the core2extreme qx9650 3.00GHZ retail at 1500$ now THATS overpricing !!!!

Hehe, the HD4870x2 is kind of like 2 video cards in one. :P And it will max out every game out there right now.

yeah i know but its the same for the 3870x2 wich is 2 cards in 1 yet if i put 2 cards in crossfire it will make 2g of videoram

i wanna put two 4870x2 in crossfire...but of course if im 100% sure i can run crysis, assassin creed farcry 2 etc...with max settings and only 1 4870x2 ,well its okay for me.

wow there was only the quote in last post and what i wrote was not there anyway....

i know hd4870x2 is like 2cards in one

but i want two of those anyway in crossfire unless im sure i can run games like crysis, farcry2 and powerhungry games at max...then i would be happy with only 1card ;)

SolidSnakeJT

Since your new PC will be "coming" in 3 months, I would get HD4870x2. By then, the price on it should drop. It's going to be the best card out in the following months. Make sure you have a big PSU to handle all that juice. It requires like 400watts. If you plan to Quadfire, You'll need a 1000watt PSU to be safe.

I read your first post, but I wasnt sure if you're aware of how much power the HD4870x2 would consume. Looks like you had your sights set on the 3870x2 which only needs like a good 750w power supply just to be safe. Like I said, you have the PSU, now get the HD4870x2. It's going to be awesome. :D

exactly. Getting the new stuff just because it is new is just dumb. A 3870 preforms absoulty fine. Getting a new card just for that reason of higher FPS is not a good reason to buy a gpu. A 3870 still can max out all of the newer games, and alot of the even newer games coming out. Nahalem at this early stage is unnessasry, unless you are an enthuiest. E8500s are fine, and will continue to be fine for many years.

When there is CPU that will crush anything right now (QX9770) even at stock frequncy of 2.66Ghz, coming out in 2 months for 350$ i think its worth the wait. Don't you?

Anytime is worrisome...but more so when there is a socket change on the horizon.

well i made some changes to my pc plan...

i took only 1harddrive instead of 2 ( 750gb is enough anyway lol )

i took only 1 EAH3870x2 ( maybe EAH4870x2 when it comes out depending on performance and price )

i took a blu-ray drive 100$ cheaper...LITEON DH-401s- 4x blu-ray

and i added MICROSOFT windows vista home premium SP1

and the total is now 500$ less fot only 2100$

do you guys still think i can max out games like crysis, COD4, assassins creed, and such ?

I love how people just call my your pc OUTDATED because it doesnt have a 'nehalem' processer, I have a q6600 and two 4850s and i run crysis on ultra high with no problem (DX9 that is, DX10 performs worse and looks the same, and i just used ultra high mod for better visuals than the very high DX10 setting)

seriously, I just laugh at the people that go around calling high-end rigs 'outdated' because a newer processer or GPU is out. Look at the 8800, that thing was the card that EVERYONE had to have, now, with next to no new games since the 8800 was hyped for (Crysis) everyone is calling it outdated because of the realease of the 4850, the 8800 is a GREAT card! it is not outdated. I just learned to ignore people that hound after the lastest hardware just cause it's newer.

if i were you, the 3870s are fine, yes, but i would get two 4850s or 4870s, im pretty sure 1 4850 beats two 3870s for less buck.

and you have an intel X48 - Better to stick with ATI for that mobo.

hope i helped

thank you for the reply...

oh and by the way is that true that i need vista for blu-ray playback on pc ?

and can i play games at highest resolution without tweaking with windows XP or will i really need vista for max visuals ?

cause i dont mind vista but there are still a couple of programs that are not compatible and lots of people are having trouble with it...personnaly my ex-gf had vista and we never had any prob with it tho

Outdated? No. And, not under-powered...currently. It's just that with the pending socket change, the socket 775 platform has a rather limited future upgrade pathway. I too have a Q6600 and plan to run it until at least 2011 (unless an act of God occurs...). Penryn is the only upgrade I'd be able to make and that really isn't a cost effective leap, from a price to performance standpoint. I wouldn't invest in a new 775 build right now, unless it was a budget rig...just to get by until Nehalem hits the street.

or will it need newer stuff that only works with the new sockets ?

No. You will need LGA1366 socket mobo + DDR3 Ram + Nehalem ofcourse.

The socket is just for the CPU, you'll probably need a new motherboard with sockets that fit, that's it. There shouldn't be much change with other components. If it was me I would just go with a cheap motherboard and a cheap CPU for now and OC it. You'll still have a very good time with games until Nehalem comes out.

The socket is just for the CPU, you'll probably need a new motherboard with sockets that fit, that's it. There shouldn't be much change with other components. If it was me I would just go with a cheap motherboard and a cheap CPU for now and OC it. You'll still have a very good time with games until Nehalem comes out.enraged_caveman

Ye. Like 1-2 months if everything goes as planned...

wow i was just cheking this website...

http://www.bjorn3d.com/forum/showthread.php?t=24824

apparently the nehalem 2.66ghz would only be 284$ ???

i dont think it can be the good prices cause the

INTEL Core2 Quad Q9450 / 2.66GHz / 1333MHz / LGA775 is 356.95$

so a new more powerfull processor would be cheaper than this one ? wow

I love how people just call my your pc OUTDATED because it doesnt have a 'nehalem' processer...

domke13

Outdated? I wouldn't invest in a new 775 build right now, unless it was a budget rig...just to get by until Nehalem hits the street.

i planned on waiting 4months before buying my pc so if i wait for nehalem will everyting i named be compatible ?

or will it need newer stuff that only works with the new sockets ?

No. You will need LGA1366 socket mobo + DDR3 Ram + Nehalem ofcourse.

I might consider upgrading when the prices drop, but i am very happy with my Q6600.

That price is for 1,000 CPU's. It will probably cost around 300-350 on newegg and such.
