Today I finally built my first PC and all in all everything went great. The only problem is everytime I boot the system I can sometimes get to the bios or not even that far and the machine just shuts down. I was able to get into the bios once and checked the CPU temps and it went from 40c to 109c within under a minute and then shut down. I'm thinking that is the problem but if anyone can help me please do so. If you need any more information please let me know and my specs are listed below.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Processor

Asus P5N32-E Sli Motherboard

OCZ GameXtream 700w Power Supply

Samsung 320gb Hard Drive

Kingston 2GB Memory Kit

2 Foxconn 7600gt video cards

Thats actually what I'm thinking now. I followed the instructions as it said but when I was putting it on I did notice it felt a little flimsy.

Its kinda weird, with the stock hs/f, the pins have to be fully expanded and twisted all the way in the opposite direction of the arrows before you mount it, when your putting it in press down on 2 pins at a time in opposite diagonal direction,

Maybe look on google, that explanation probably sucks,

there's also a guide in the c2d instruction manual .

Either that or it was the crappy plastic they use that made it feel flimsy. I'll reatach the heatsink in a few and tell everyone how that goes. Hopefully this is the problem and can be fixed simply.

The motherboard could also be warped, but thats rare

Sometimes you have to push down pretty hard on the pins till you hear a click sound,

Most likely, could also be you need some thermal paste. I had the exact same problem when installing my AMD athlon 3500+.
