Im building a new rig and it will be able to run Crysis at high settings, but im stuck on the power supply. My buddy is building a similar rig and he suggested a 520W, but he got a 700W at Frys. I thought 700W might we overkill, but I could be wrong. Is a 520W good enough for the games out.

first this should be in the hardware section but since you asked....

We need all of your specs motherboard, cpu, memory, gpu, additional pci cards, case specifics(how big and how many fans, liquid cooling?)

in general for a single high end graphics card and a moderately high end cpu and mobo, 520W should be enough. The biggest question in psu's is not just max watts though but how reliably and steadily it can deliver the power and how many rails its being sent down. So if the choice is between higher watts or higher quality, quality is almost always the better choice.

It's not a matter of the games out, it's a matter of the hardware. The power supply doesn't have an effect on performance, it simply provides power to the hardware inside the case that does. We need to know what your hardware in that new computer is to know what kind of power supply you need. Video card, processor, how many hard drives and disc drives you have, etc. More than likely, 520 will be enough, but I'd personally say you should get a 600 or higher so it will last you longer as hardware becomes more advanced and more power-hungry. Something like the one in my sig, which can be found for a nice price at Newegg, would be great.

And for future reference, this belongs in the PC Hardware forum.

Just get a 520 watt corsair. There pretty much the best psu's and at a good price too.

Edit: and if you dont want to be minimalistic then get the 620 watt corsair.

520 should work, but again, more would just be better. Here's the one I was talking about.

PC Power and Cooling is the number one PSU brand, above even Corsair, so you simply won't find better quality than this, and this is a very reasonable price for how much power this puts out and the quality it has. This one should be adequately able to power any top-of-the-line video cards that come out for at least three more years, probably longer.

That is a really good price for the power you get. I was looking into maybe 620W but this is a very nice option. Thank you very much
