I recently bought IL2 Sturmovik and realised that to be better at it I should probably play some more begginer freindly Flight Sims, hopefully near the end of the year I should have a joystick.

So what are some great flight sims for begginers.

First of all, you will need a joystick or something of the like before you can really play flight sims. You could just stick to IL2 and just tone down the realism until you get the hang of everything and then slowly add in the more complicated features.

IL2 is HAAAARD! Very good game, but yeah... as stated before, turn down the realism settings till you get the hand of it. Great game.Blazings Angels are rather cool, more arcade like though...

Joystick would help, or if money isn't a issue... get a HOTAS.

Flight Simulator X, great fun. Lots of mods and skins. I use a keyboard for that and that's fine. The expansion I don't have, but it has faster planes, so I assume a joystick would better suit it.

I might be getting FSX with the joystick

Well, the easyest arcade style flight simulator is H.A.W.X. Personally I didn't give it much attention, but it could be a good place for you to start. Airfix dogfighter is fun to play too. And you could try Blazing Angels ;)

Nice, there's also a big multiplayer community as well for FSX if you're interested in that.

Why MS taking so long to put out another flight sim. I know "Flight" is on the way but how far away? Seems like forever. And the IL2 devs are taking forever too to release the successor to IL2. Flight sim fail. Id really like another. Dont want crap like HAWX or Blazing Angels.

I would go with Lock on. There are many great tutorials out there for it and its not that hard. After you get the hang of that I wouldd go with DCS Ka 50 and DCS A10c. These are Hardcore sims but has the option to lower the realism.

If you're going to use FSX online please do yourself a favour and stay away from Gamespy, check out Vatsim and signup if your interested in any form of realism.

Stay away from DCS:BlackShark KA-50 and their new A-10 warthog unless you plan to spend many many hours learning a sim. These games were not designed for the casual gamer. KA-50 can take you 2 hours alone just to learn how to start it in Realistic Mode. Yes, as the previous poster stated there is a game mode but you will only be able to play that in Single player as none of the multiplayer servers are set to game mode and are all on Realistic mode. Don't get me wrong, they are both fantastic SIMULATIONS and I can not stress that word enough. I have KA-50 and enjoy it in single player and sometimes host multiplayer for friends only in game mode. If you are a beginer then first what kind of flying do you want to do? Combat? Commercial? Historic?

Combat: IL-2, MS Combat Simulator 3, Wings of Prey, Rise of Flight (this is WWI planes), H.A.W.X (more arcade then sim)

Commercial: Flight Sim X, Xplane-9 (Xplane has a bigger learning curve)

Historical: MS FlightSim 2004:A History of Flight (as it has historical flights like the first mail route)

Hope this helps! :D

Agrees with Levrar on VATSIM, although I have never used them as I am not that good at remembering all the radio call backs and stuff but they are well organized and proffesional. I Have hundreds of hours in flight sim using Saitek Pro Flight Yoke, Switch panel and Throttle Quadrant. Someday I will get the guts to sign up with them :)

Nearly every new member has a hard time getting the confidence to fly on the network, but it's not really that bad. If you have hundreds of hours in Flight Sim and know how to handle your aircraft then your just as good as almost every other pilot on the network. I have a few hundred controlling hours on VATSIM and a lot more as a pilot and see newbies everyday think that they're worse than they really are.
