Hel all i just got my new video card visiontek ATI radeon HD 4850 512meg.Now i have 2 huge problems first my power supply is only 350watt and i see on the box for the card it requirres 450watt.The second is my pc is a DELL so i have no idea how to upgrade it with a new power supply my dell is a inspiron 530 so can someone link me to a site with a new power supply that will fit in it?
Almost forgot right now im forced to keep my side panal off my pc with a small fan blowing into the pc just to keep is cool.is that a smart idea or can somthing go wrong with the pc?
yeah u should upgrade that PSU any standard ATX PSU should fit, as for the card google HD 4850 fan fix, I think that the stock speed of the fan runs at 20 or 30 percent dont remember. If you do the fan fix put it at 50 or 60 percent and temps will drop dramatically
You're running a serious risk of it overheating if you're forced to do that. Since you need a new PSU anyhow, what's a new case on top of that... Get something with lots of fans like an Antec 900.
Also google the fan fix the previous poster mentioned. Might improve heat somewhat to up the fan rpm.
But the PSU has got to go. You're likely to brown out or black out your computer and suffer component damage. Get at least a top of the line brand name 500 watt PSU, 650 would be better. Something by ABS, Hyper, Thermaltake, Antec, or Silverstone would be good.
Dude remove the card now. The 4870 requires 2x6pin connectors to power it correctly and you probaly have none/maybe one. Get at least a good quality 500-550w with 2x6pin connectors
