Desktoplinux.com reports that Dell will be rumoredly be offering Linux - probably in its Ubuntu form - preinstalled on a number of entry-level and lower-end PCs. While not exactly a nail in the coffin of Microsoft, it is a strong sign that the efforts of the Linux community are being embraced by consumers, with manufacturers taking note.

Excerpt: According to our sources, Ubuntu will be released on a Dell e-series "Essential" Dimension desktop, an XPS desktop, and an e-series Inspiron laptop.

Nice to have the option. Ubuntu is as user friendly as Linux gets and even the computer illiterate can do simple tasks in it...at least the same stuff they'd be doing in Windows.

Unfortunately, knowing Dell...how long until these Linux installs on their boxes start to include the tons of craplets their Windows installs do?
