Yea, most of the box is empty space, the Diablo one is in a jewel case with the manual. The manual is very detailed and explains a lot of the lore. Now developers are too lazy to bother putting together a decent manual. I also saved the advertisement inserts. They were all talking about the wonders of the internet and how you can browse the net with NetScape!spiderman120988
Good ol Netscape! haha.
I remember download the demo to Duke Nukem on dial up and how I thought it was SOOO cool to be able to download a demo for a game haha.
Lets not forget the dialup modem games of Doom2, where if someone picked up the phone or if you recieved a call the game would disconnect :P

lol I remember that happening while playing doom 2. we had to go through alot of crap back then to play games online.Yea, most of the box is empty space, the Diablo one is in a jewel case with the manual. Oldest game box I have is the original NWN. It looks about the size of those. Does Blizzard at least still use cardboard? Seems they were the last man standing in that regard lol... BC came in a cardboard with the flipout cover, kind of old school, but just smaller...
Good old days... Same thing is happening to movies. VHS were big bulky boxes DVDs were smaller Now BluRays are even smaller... I guess at the end it's ok, cause you need less room to store and it still looks good...http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/9174/p8120001.jpg

Ah dial up. Good times when seeing the phone bill and it says you made a call for 5 hours! There's another ad about signing up for internet service for AT&T.spiderman120988I didn't find out until midday about the Twin Towers attack cause of Dial Up... I was downloading the HD Trailer for Lord of the Rings.... and reading a book (my TV was off). Everyone was trying to call me (no mobiles back then) to tell me about the Twin Towers, but it took about 3 hours to download that trailer....lol
I certainly do remember them.
I had so many of them... I threw most of them away a little while ago and put the CDs in a wallet and the manuals in a folder. They just took up FAR too much room.
But I do still have these two:
Good times.
Yeah I remembered buying a standard edition Baldur's Gate and it comes with a really thick manual (as compared to now), a few other booklets, a CD casing with very nice cover and a CLOTH MAP. That was really cool... Also remembered when I bought flight sim...couldnt remember which title but man, the manual was so thick and the information inside was pretty detailed its like reading a real flight training book haha... I especially miss having thick manuals...heck, I bought most of my games on Steam now...http://img571.imageshack.us/img571/9174/p8120001.jpg

Or when you get on an online game with 56k and everyone else has ISDN. "Who the f* got on here with 700 ping... 56k noob!" I'm glad they got rid of the ridiculous boxes, they took up too much damn space. Europe started selling them in DVD cases long before we did. I remember thinking, why can't we do that? I just moved and got rid of all of my junk including all of those boxes that were just sittin around. Put it all in a CD case and it looks so much better. Kept the manuals as well.Good ol Netscape! haha.

I don't have a picture of it but I do have the original Starsiege box that was this massive rectangle that came with an art book.

Makes me happy to see them sticking with cool boxes. Plus they have always had some interesting flip out covers and if they switched over to dvd cases they would need the slip covers that are annoying as hell.
At least Blizzard never jumped on the big *** dvd cases that could fit roughly 5 discs, but never contained more than two. That **** was annoying.
I remember the Duke Nukem 3D and Dark Forces 1 boxes. Got those for my 7th and 6th birthdays. Good times in the mid-late 90's
Duke Nukem 3d is probably the earlier game I have the box for.I remember the Duke Nukem 3D and Dark Forces 1 boxes. Got those for my 7th and 6th birthdays. Good times in the mid-late 90's

Hell YEAH! I love the oversized boxes and miss them. I had to throw some I've bought back in the golden age, but bought some oldies recently.
Everything used to be higher quality.
I remember when vinyl records used to come with poster art, and a large concert book, with photos of the band on tour, lyrics to all the songs, and bios on all the band members.
I feel sorry for kids today - they're getting ripped off - and don't even know it.
lol, look at that manual. I remember having a manual like that for Silent ServiceHere's the Falcon 4.0 pics :D
i played that game for quite a while too. It made me feel like I could really fly a real-life fighter jet. Might come in handy one of these days.

This was one of the first pc games i got and it was probably the biggest, about the size of a standard cereal box.
I still have a load of games with their large boxes - though mostly packed away in larger storage boxes.
I do still keep a few out, though mainly just collectors editions or other rare finds.
I also have an X-COM 1&2 Collectors edition boxset containing UFO Enemy Unknown and Terror From The Deep, both with full strategy guides, that rival the Falcom 4 pics earlier in this thread for thickness of manual.
I certainly do remember them.
