I have just purchased the game Spore. I have Windows XP, and when I insert the game disk into the drive, nothing loads or pops up on the screen. I can tell it recognizes the game, but even going on My Computer and clicking on the CD RW icon, it says "Please insert a disk into drive D." Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks!Rain_Maddness
I don't have Spore, so I'm not entirely sure if they have the game on DVD and/or CD.
So, this might sound elementary, but what kind of media format is the game on? Is it on a DVD or a CD? If the game comes loaded on a DVD and your computer only has a CD-rom, then you can't load/install the game.
If the game is on CD, then there is something wrong with your CD (or maybe DVD) rom drive.
More and more companies are moving from putting their games on CDs and putting them on DVDs because they hold more information.
When Advent Rising came out on PC I went and picked up a copy - I didn't even notice that on the side of the box it specifically shows that game is a DVD-rom. My computer at the time only had a CD-rom. It took me about 10 minutes to figure out that I was trying to run a DVD in a CD player....So, check the format the game is saved on and make sure you have a drive that can read the disk.
You are right, it is DvD, and I dont have a dvd slot on my computer... So can you add a DVD slot to computer or something, or would I have to buy a whole new computer?!Rain_Maddness
You can always add a DVD drive to your computer. If you're computer doesn't have room inside for an internal one, you can always pick up an external DVD drive. That's what I did with my old computer. It's less work, too - you don't have to open your computer case or connect any cables/wires.
The external drive you just need a 2.0 USB port - any half-way decent pre-built computer in the past 5 years would have a port or two. They might be located on the back of your tower or maybe on the front. Heck, even some of monitors and keyboards have USB ports on them.
The external drive I picked up back then cost me about $25-30. It was nice to have for any other time I needed to use a DVD with my old computer.
