I prefer ATI because my HD4890 is a beast and ATI is WAY cheaper then Nvidia, though Nvidia is still a good company.

Aha! you asked the question that will drive some techs mad... congradulations! :)

In the end it depends on what your doing with it, what games do you focus on etc...

I would examine that and then look up benchmarks and see which one has better benchs in the end...

I use Nvidia. Never owned an ATI card. But I will be upgrading soon and it will be a tough decision: GTX 260 VS. HD 4870. I don't know, probably will go with Nvidia again. Just because I haven't had problems with my current card.

Nvidia, a lot more games are built around their cards. There are some awesome but seldom features on both brands though.

Iprefer ATI now because their prices are better especially because of the 4890. My 4890 runs crysis very high 2AA 1680x1050 30+ the whole way. The 4890 is a great price for the performance. Now I like Nvidia also would have went with GTX 285 but they are over $300. So I pick ATI.

hey Johnny, the 4890 is worth the extra cost, I can run crysis very high all the way 1680x1050 2AA 28+ FPS, and most of the time its much higher on just the 4890. The 4890 runs about 10c cooler than my 4870. It is also a little quieter. Now when I use the 4890 in crossfire and use it as the primary card I get better frames than when I use the 4870 as the primary card. My 4890/4870 crossfire gets me minimum 38FPS in crysis and most of the time its much, much higher at those settings. The 4890 is definetly worth the extra money because you have the option to disable the 4870 for some games and get more power because you will be running a 4890. If you are not hurtin for money then its definetly worth it. My 4890 gets about 10+ FPS across the board at 1680x1050 and that means alot at that res. The 4890 also downclocks when not gaming to save energy and run cooler, its just all around a better card. I say its a winner. Get it is you can. Just so you know if you do get it when I disable my 4870 I have to use riva tuner to keep the 4870 fan going or it will heat up because CCC shuts the fan down. So watch for this.

I like Nvidia because they usually offer better performance, quality and more features than ATI. Most games are coded for Nvidia as well, so they will run better with Nvidia hardware.

Are you teasing me anway i haven't explain all in detail but i could ;) I know that I like ATI cause Of Benchmark I'm not a fan of any side
But you know why i took X48 ? just BECAUSE OF HOW epic are ATI motherboard for overclock and such and yet i haven't overclock i didn't fell i need extra power them my 4870x2 for 1920x1200 tough i know i'm wrong cause .... you are never Enough overkill it just the noise to overclock with air lol it will sound like a JET engine is there :D (FLOOOOOShh in air)

but nice performances boost like 61fps become 66fps in average (so i can alt-tab faster) Load Window XP 15-20 second faster : Load msn 1.5 Second faster / Load Skype 0.7 Second faster / Load Xfire maybe 1.2 Second faster / Load Wordpad 0.01sec faster / Load Steam faster lol who know :D i haven't look a Benchmark that say if it does increase IMS load up :D

neway what I say Is that The Chipset of ATI Where in past Before Core i7 the Best To be With ATI SIDE if you Crossfire Because there where a negative aspect of chose P45 /X48 Is that you can't just go like il buy a 260GTX then sli it (ERROR of incompability) But Funny how X58 Does both Quad sli / Crossfire X / Tri Sli / Tri Crossfire so you can go 3x 4890 1GB / 2x 4890 Each 4GB = 8GB OF GDDR5 BY LIKE June / July (those are rumour said by Bit-tech / tomhardware and said to be confirmated that 4GB OF GDDR5 On a 4890x2 : when if you put TWO IT DO 8GB which make it the most powerfull X2 SETUP until GTX380

But Gtx 380 WAsn't confirmated at 100% it Still noticed in rumour they making a Shrinekd 295GTX with Extra Steam processor / Extra Clock Speed but you know Why they may do that for GTX 380 ? To add (TWO 295GTX into one Dual GPU CARD) = 4 GPU into A Dual GPU solution = you put Two = OCTO-SLI 8 GPU

I use to be Ati at heart but now I'm a Nvidia gamer. I always liked using ATI because of the more reasonable price, but now Nvidia pretty much wowed me back when they released the 8800GTS-512 card which I'm still using and it still owns any game I throw at it except for Crysis:Warhead....other than that...I prefer Nvidia.

i being always being nvidia guy too to be honest i never ad a single ATI : Before Today : I always AD Nvidia Since TNT 2 in a PC which was so good it washed me away when i started playing Tomb Raider and other game (the First Tomb Raider) it was really Scary when i was that young to go you know in a random world full of monster and to kill them :P But it didn't stop me i liked the fear :D so i did with Doom 1 / Doom 2 ! (But that was Before Tnt 2 even tough iv played with TNT 2 those game after ward was just plain fun But that another story isn't it ?! (Good memory)

I went ATI FOR the Reason like i said Before it The chipset for motherboard : the Video card power for price : the Benchmark shown me how it good in /FPS for majority of game more fps = better such if you take : TWO 260GTX but a 4870x2 : would cost 150-200$ Less and give more performances in 75% of the game ? the conclusion is you want to go ATI Because you'r a Gamer and a Video card Is a Video card : the most power full one from w/e Brand is The way to go

it a chain of thing who make me does that : great Overclocking / Great Stability motherboard / Great Feature / Great Video card of ATI more say it was the top back to September 2008 So i went ATI but if i was told that 295GTx was like Cheaper : and that NF 790i can do just the job and be Damn stable id could have gone nvidia cause i alway being nvidia and the next Setup will depend if i get a Core i7 X58 + Westmere to Go back to nvidia . or stick with ati and Crossfire

As you know Core i7 + X58 / With Lucid hydra 100's and Event current X58 in 90% of the motherboard you pick from 200-400$ They do 3-way sli / 3 way Crossfire whic mean they also do Crossfire x / Quad sli = There isn't a motherboard war : so you pick the Side of the winner in Video card and you then start to have a desire to go with that side Green or RED : to have the best gaming at the Lowest Cost

But I can tell the Greatest Ally Amd Ever add was Nforce for them cause it bringed sli with good motherboard in old day it was looking so appealing that i M2N32-Sli deluxe Before Swap out for E8600 / X48 DFI

it up to you if you favorism a side be sure it worth ur money or ur affection ;) cause me i'm a gamer and i resigned me self to not favorism one or the other it to support the winner nothing more : Example for give more detail about what i talk about ?

okay let look at 4870x2 vs 295GTx in Far cry 2 at 1920x1200 RED Side win + 3FPS)
So It mean that ATI is potential to be still good in 2009 Q3 (Release of HD5870)
http://www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3520&p=9

while for fallout 3 We have Equality on 1920x1200 But Nvidia Favorism on 2560x1600 (in most of the game include Far cry 2 but it cost whole lot)
If Only Both Card Could run like a 4870x2 + a 295GTX and giving you more power then if example you ad TWO 295GTx / Two 4870x2 because of a Fusion of Two Different GPU

Funny quote lol But amd is Going down in current position for Enthusiast gaming :D so id say you'r quote is just as nice as say : Il Run at 30km everyday and die running at 30km (85 year later) YES I can Still run at 30km (Run the road i'm faster then trafic i'm young (then you realise you can't run at 30km and almost get hit by a car :D

Or more say in computer way (note it just Theory speaking of Technology Market Warfare Related to computer if you go amd : and alway lag : you put two 480gTX : and you still fell lag at 1920x1200 / 2560x1600 because if example i 2012-2015 : Because of a Revolution Inte Layout that would make : 16-32 Core when AMD : 8 core with only : 70FPS Behind for Crysis 3 then you try to run Cryisis 3 : with ur : 8 core : at 3.0Ghz each with : Two Of the best video card on market :D and then you still get 30fps when you put AA to 64XX and AF at 32X lol if in theory it go that way ;) while if you ad spend 150-200$ more and went with intel you would get : 90-120fps

not to insult or anything i just say.. that quote like that are funny :D : But I sure Like ur Enthusiast into Like a company even if it will give poor Result
http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/cpus/2009/02/11/amd-phenom-820-810-720-710-am3-cpus/5
(core i7 Leading the market of gaming Enthusiast by +10FPS then AMD for single card Solution) * wish it was AMD *
cause if amd was the top of Every game in most of the Benchmark i would never bough E8600 ;)

Yeah, I'm going with the Canadians on this one.

I vote team red, ATI.

Domobomb

I would think team red would be the soviets, but nevermind...

I've always been in the mid-range market for video cards, i've had two from nvidia and two from ati over the past 5 or so years. so far, the nvidia cards (8600gt, 9800GT) have been better than the ATI cards (x1600pro, hd3650, i know, not a fair comparison) not only in terms of performance, but in terms of stability and overclocking ability. the two nvidia cards i've got were from Evga, and they've both run cool, overclocked well, and been very stable. the ati cards tended to overheat very easily, and would overclock extremely poorly (although that may have been those particular models).

but the main reason i prefer nvidia is the fact that you get to use nhancer to force AA in many games that don't normally allow AA. the ati control panel is very limeting compared to nhancer.

I've had: Ati: x800 Nvidia: 7900GS, 2x 8800GT SLi (now 1). I got the 7900GS because it was the most powerful PSU witht he lowest power consumption my old PSU could handle. I upgraded to the 8800GT because ATIs drivers were crap and all over the place at the time. Perfect example were the shadow problems that ATi drivers had in Oblivion where you would get stripy horses. I've never had any problems with Nvidia and they're the more widely supported manufacturer, have more going for them, and are making good progress with non-GFX app integration into their cards such as Physx and CUDA.

what exactly is limiting about the ati control panel? maybe you havn't use a recent version of it? i can force AA, adaptive AA, Anisotropic filtering, and vsync. there's more options other than them, but im not sure if they are forced on or not. whats really cool is you can change your color tempature, which you can usually only do on high end hdtv's im not sure if nvidia can do this but its the first time ive ever seen it before, altho if your not a video buff color temp won't mean much.

I agree but if you compare them to NVIDIA's they still fall short. NVIDIA seem to give better performance with all of their updates,,,a lot of the ATI drivers are bug fixes.

I've given ATi an honest try, back when they had the top-end and NVIDIA didn't have anything that was at its level. To sum it up, it was basically month after month of driver conflicts, reinstalls, games not working, and about six RMA's later, I finally had enough of their crap and their attitude. And this was with a built-by-ATi card, not even some third-party remake. I'd hate to think what I would have to put up with if I had a third-party ATi card.

I can, because I still get driver issues, especially with the older cards that they won't provide updated drivers to anymore. It's frustrating as heck to know that the driver revision *after* the last one you can download actually has the fix you would have needed, only that you can't get it because ATi arbitrarily says that you're not eligible. And not once had I been able to successfully install a newer version driver overtop of another with ATi, yet I've never had a problem with that on any NVIDIA driver.

ATI used to max out their clock speeds from the factory, and overclocking was out of the question. So I'm not surprised that you had problems with they're older cards. But that issue seems to have been fixed long ago...

well, of the 8 cards I've owned over the years, 6 if them have been NVIDIA, and 1 has been ATI (the 9600XT).... and the other one was a 3dfx Voodoo (those were the days).

I'm not sure why I prefer NVIDIA. ATI are great, and i always consider them when I'm buying a new card. but in the end I just always seem to go with NVIDIA. perhaps it's because GeForce was always considered the better performer for such a long time, that now Radeons can actually keep up and even outperform them that (maybe subconsciously) I just haven't gotten used to it.

besides, I've always been happy with NVIDIA. in my limited experience with ATI, I did find some bugs and annoying driver issues quite often... but nothing that would stop me buying ATI in the future

Nvidia - New Drivers always improve performance and it's the only card on the market that has Physx built in.

ATI - They're cheaper and overclock more/easier.

don't know for havoc thing for ati : but i know for physic x those are rumour i heard and i haven't made the link to possible / to future technology or to current technology but i heard of people having Two 4870x2 + a 8800GT Set as PPU

I'm an Nvidia fanboy; however, I think you should add an "either one" or "don't care" to this survey cause you're kinda forcing people to choose one or the other....just my 2 cents.

I don't really care, but I guess I do have a slight tendency towards ATI (and will until I need a system overhaul- my current motherboard supports Crossfire). Since I've been upgrading computers, I've got back and forth. GeForce3 Ti200 ----> ATI Radeon 9800Pro -----> GeForce 7800 ------> ATI 3850. The only thing that really disappoints me about ATI is there drivers with regards to fixed-aspect ratio scaling. You can only do it if you use DVI, which I currently am not. It just seems like something that should be supported across the board.

It was not hard for me to vote nVidia and not for any specific reason. It's just what I prefer. I love having ATI around for the competition, I think it makes both better.

I've gone back and forth between them with each machine I build. The first was nVidia, the next ATi and now I'm back to nVidia. If I was forced to use just one from here on out I'd choose nVidia. I'm a raw power kinda guy and they seem to have better drivers. Besides that, I don't recall seeing many ATi logos when my games start up, not that that necessarily makes a whole lot of difference.
