So I currently have a Sapphire Toxic 5850 which still does things fine, but I've been hankering for a new graphics card now for no good reason. I've been looking at the 7950 (or even 7970) but the 660Ti that just came out looks like it's a pretty good card AND it comes with Borderlands 2 which I really want. So is the 7950 enough better than the 660Ti that I should disregard the free Borderlands that comes with it?

The 660TI is as good as the 7950 at stock speeds. If you overclock them both to the max the 7950 wipes the floor with it. So it's up to you if you OC or not.

If you are using 1080 or under GTX 660ti does a great job matching up to a stock 7950. Now if you play at 1080 or above and like to use AA and dont mind overclocking the 7950 is the better buy. Now if your looking into the 7970 I wouldn't bother because of the GTX 670 4gb model that can be cheaper and having more memory as is as fast as the 7970.

I usually play at 1900x1200 so it seems that the consensus is generally in favor of the 7950. Any particular brands? I've been looking at the XFX Black Edition because I read it overclocks well.

If you do get one of the new nVidia cards, be sure to test ALL of your current games right when you get it. I've had several models of first batch nVidia GPU's that would only fail in one particular game...

Yeah you should get the XFX B.E. It's the exact same card used in this test:

http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/29270851/gtx-660-ti-vs-hd-7950-vs-gtx-670-overclocked-benchmarks

Plus it has lifetime warranty. Two birds 1 stone.

Well thanks guys, sounds like the Radeon 7950 XFX Black Edition it is. Now I just need to summon up the moral fortitude to spend $300 on a completely unnecessary purchase.

You gave us a choice of 660TI or 7950. I chose 7950.

Now 660TI or 7950 or None is a different story. I would go with None. Really, unless you're playing Crysis or Metro 24/7, a 5850 should handle every modern game out there quite easily, even on 1200p.

If you don't OC at all and your res is 1080p or lower it's a coin toss imho. But if you like to OC it's no contest, 7950.

I hate to have to say it, but the 7950 is the better card when they're priced similarly. Most places I look they're within 20-30 bucks of each other now that AMD has dropped the prices on the 7950 and 7870. 7950 gives you more VRAM and/or much more memory bandwidth and very good OC capabilities.

I think a big thing to note is if you plan on getting Borderlands 2, the 660 ti is really like a $240 to $260 video card.. At least through newegg with the purchase of a 660 ti you get Borderlands 2 for free.. So your spending like $310 but your getting a $60 game in return as well..

True but Amd offers Dirt Showdown/ Nexuiz and Deus Ex if you get a 79xx series card
