If your other settings are up high, like anti-aliasing, then yeah that sounds about right.

Yeah its normal. i've got a ati x1950 and in a similar fashion the framerate drops outside, and rockets up into triple figures indoors. Its all to do with the loading and amount the comp has to deal with. the outdoor environments are much larger and complex than dungeons or houses (even with speedtree!) haha.

i can't use antialiasing because of the hdr. i can't use antialiasing and hdr together.all the other settings are on high.

and in stalker it happens the same. i have average framerate 70-90fps and suddenly it drops to 30-35.is it normal guys?

in stalker i use the same res 1280x1024.the drop difference is about 40 fps it's very big number.

what if i had a pc than gives the oblivion 20fps?at open areas -10fps or what?is it normal?

You can force AA through Nvidia control panel and it will work.

How long are those frame rate drops in STALKER? If they only last couple seconds, that's when it loads.

That seems pretty good for Oblivion. It isn't a well optimised game.

I had similar a similar problem with STALKER -having 120fps indoors and down to 35 outdors it was from the highly demanding HDR. If you want outrageously high fps just go without HDR .

I personally turn HDR off and use bloom, HDR just doesn't look right to me, everything is too reflective. I have the same setup as you, and I get a little more fps, do you ru much background stuff?

It is normal for both games. U can force (and should with ur coomp) AA and AF in the NV control panel. However, you cannot do this for S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Aside from defragging your HD, try the -noprefetch command in S.TA.L.K.E.R., and if that still isn't good enough try Float 32 (without -no prefetch). If it still isn't good enough read the very thorough Tweakguides for each game. Oblivion expecially has a lot of .ini tweaking you can do. If ur lazy and want a simple outdoor bump just turn off grass shadows, they can really kill performance.

games won't drop to negative framerate. Most cards however will drop relative performance So 90 to 30 for yours and another person who gets 20 frames will drop to about 6fps. The drops in framerate should be based on what you are seeing or what the world is doing. If it drops for no reason at all, looking at the same thing and not doing anything then that is a problem unless its streaming something.

8800GTS 320 sucks, that card got issues, man. 8800GTX rocks and 8800GT gonna rock too.

The reason that this 8800GTS 320 sucks at dx10 gaming and its a real bummer just because it got 320mb(for a high-end next gen card, its not enough).

Well obviously. Oblivion and STALKER don't support Dx10.

Blitz meant that 320Mb isn't enough for upcoming games. Or Qarls Texture Pack 3 :D

I thought the 8 GeForce series cards are suppose to be able to do both AA and HDR together?

And you can. You just have to force it through control panel.

Can you do this with a GeForce 7 series too?

Oblivion is not well optimized. I run it with all the setting on max, carl's texture pack III (eats your memcard), streamline (oblivion "optimizer") and oblivion optimizer.

I'm getting 20-30 fps in the wild. 8800gts, e6600, 2gb ddr800mhz. So i quess your fps sounds right.

Nope. Just for 8 series like it's supposed to be. Oblivion just doesn't recognize the 8 series, so you have to force it.

Yeah. Oblivion is horribly optimized. Running it constantly over 30fps with max settings is a good thing.

Dunno if anyone's still having problems, but I found even with a 9800GTX that with antialiasing enabled I had a horrible slowdown (from 70fps down to 6fps sometimes!) when Antialiasing - Transparency is set to Supersampling in the nVidia control panel.

It affects the antialiasing on leaves and foliage in particular, and is enabled when AA is set to 2x or more in the Oblivion settings. Supersampling hammers the graphics card, and gave me 6-15fps when looking at a lot of trees (looking behind you just after coming out of the sewers for the first time was a good test). Multisampling gave me a steady 50fps when looking at the same trees, Transparency AA Off gave me a steady 70 fps, regardless of where I was looking.

Image quality doesn't suffer much, particularly if I'm using multisampling, and though I haven't tested yet, I'm sure Stalker suffers from exactly the same problem.

Hope this helps... Hopefully this thread topping the google list fo "Oblivion Antialiasing Framerate" should get the information to the people who need it! :D
